Mathematics IA word count and page limit
Are you starting to write your Mathematics IA and you’re unsure what should it be like? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered! Read this post to find out about the page count and structure of the Math AA and AI exploration. Mathematics IA is an investigation of a chosen topic using mathematical methods and theories from the IB course. There is no page or word limit. However based on the thousands of reviewed IAs we suggest that your exploration should be 12 to 20 pages long to ensure that it is concise and focused. The recommended format is font size 12 and double spacing. The investigation should be divided into 3 main sections: introduction, main body, and conclusion, which can be further subdivided.
Introduction
Start your IA by introducing the background of your study and clearly stating and explaining the topic of your investigation. This section should also describe the approach to investigating the topic and what area of curriculum it relates to. One of the assessment criteria for this IA is personal engagement, thus it should be mentioned how it corresponds to your area of interest or why you chose to examine this specific subject. We advise you to devote around 2 pages for the introduction. Check this to get a glimpse of the matter.
Main body
The longest section of your IA will be the main body meaning the exploration itself. It should begin with explaining the methodology and its choice. Next, you employ this methodology to investigate the topic. It is important to use appropriate mathematical language, define key terms and variables, and make use of multiple forms of mathematical representation, such as formulae, diagrams, tables, charts, graphs, and models. Remember to explain all the stages and draw conclusions from the obtained results. You should search for tendencies, patterns but also anomalies, if they occur. The core part of your math report should take up to 16 pages since the majority of points you can get are assigned to this section. See the usage of different methods of mathematical representation here.

CAROUSEL

Conclusion
In the conclusion of around 2 pages, you state the answer to the investigated topic based on the conducted analysis. You should also reflect on what you have learned and what are the implications of the obtained results. Next, consider the limitations of the applied methodology or compare different mathematical approaches and perspectives towards solving the topic. It is also suggested to provide possible extensions of the investigation. See this exemplar for inspiration. If you need more guidance check out other available Mathematics IAs on the Clastify website and refer to them while writing your investigation. Are you in the process of writing your extended essay? Remember to plan it efficiently to fit within the word limit. Your work cannot exceed 4,000 words! There is no page limit. Keep reading to find out Clastify's recommendations on how to allocate these words to best meet the assessment criteria. We draw from our extensive experience with helping IB students achieve the best marks for their coursework.
EE word count
The exact word allocation for extended essays will vary between the subjects since they require a different structure. However what is common for every EE is the division between the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion.
Introduction
The introduction with background information should take up to around 600 words. This should be sufficient to describe the topic and aim of your essay, as well as state the research question, and hypothesis and explain the approach to conducting the study. In this part you will also define the key concepts relating to the investigation. Here you can find a good example.
Main body
The main body is the most important of these 3 sections as it contributes to the greatest number of points. Therefore it should be the longest. We recommend using around 3,000 words. As it was already mentioned, the structure of the main body will depend on the subject, for instance:

In Group 4 subjects (such as Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) it will consist of variables, equipment, results, and analysis - see here.

In the case of History, these 3,000 words should be divided between the sources and their analysis - check out this EE.

Whereas the main body of the Economics essay will include the methodology (for primary and secondary data) and the analysis - as shown in this exemplar.

Conclusion
Use the remaining 400 words for the final conclusion and evaluation but remember that a high-scoring EE will contain elements of evaluation and mini-conclusions throughout the entire extended essay. Here, you will state the answer to the research question and highlight the key findings of your investigation. You are also expected to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your work, as well as propose ways for improvement and extension. See this exemplar to get a glimpse of the matter.

CAROUSEL

Be careful, make sure to deduct the following because they are not included in the word count.:

Acknowledgments

Contents page

Diagrams

Labels — of five words or fewer

Headings on diagrams — of 10 words or fewer

Tables of statistical data

Equations, formulae, and calculations

Citations (which, if used, must be in the body of the commentary)

References (which, if used, must be in the footnotes/endnotes)

Bibliography

Appendices

We are hoping that you found this guide useful! Therefore, refer to the key concepts and different theories. Structure your investigation for it to contain an in-depth critical analysis – remember to provide substantive justifications, use counterarguments, and apply different perspectives. The analysis should be around 1,200 words. See a well-structured analysis in this exemplar.
  Conclusion
Allocate the remaining 300 words for synthesis and evaluation. Are you working on your IB English A HL Essay, but you're feeling uncertain about the requirements regarding the word count and page limit? If so, this guide is just for you!
IB English A HL Essay Word Count and Page Limit
The English A HL Essay should not exceed 1,500 words. There is no page limit. It is recommended to use a 12-point font with double spacing. The basic structure includes an introduction, main body, and conclusion. The following word counts for each section below are our suggestions, but feel free to modify them as you see fit for your particular essay!
Introduction
The introduction of your HL essay lays the groundwork for your analysis. In around 150 words, your goal is to clearly present the work you'll analyse, outline the line of inquiry, and introduce the thesis you will develop throughout the essay. Start by briefly identifying the author, title, and time period of the text. Give enough context to help the reader understand the significance of your topic –without drifting into plot summary. Then, introduce your line of inquiry: this is the central question or area of focus that your essay will explore. Follow it with a thesis statement that offers a clear, debatable perspective on that question. Check out this and this exemplar to see what a strong introduction looks like.
Main body
The main body is the core of your essay – aim for about 1,200 words of close analysis. Divide your argument into clearly focused paragraphs, each exploring a different aspect of your line of inquiry. Each paragraph should start with a topic sentence that directly relates to your thesis. Follow this with specific references to the text, including quotations, and a detailed analysis of literary and non-literary techniques. Rather than being descriptive, be sure to examine how and why certain effects are created. A strong HL Essay body can be seen here and here.
Conclusion
Your conclusion, roughly 150 words, should provide a clear, thoughtful summary of your argument, without repeating everything you’ve already said. Revisit your thesis and reflect on how your analysis has supported it. Avoid introducing new examples here. Instead, provide a thoughtful summary of what you have established and make sure to provide a direct answer to the selected question. This and this exemplar end with a strong conclusion. We hope you found this post helpful. The Individual Oral (IO) is one of the main assessments students must complete for both IB English A: Literature and IB English A: Language and Literature. It assesses your ability to connect literary or non-literary texts to global issues, demonstrating analytical and critical thinking skills through a formal oral presentation. Students are allowed to have notes in the form of bullet points to help guide their analysis. This post will outline some details on how to prepare your bullet points for the English A IO.
IB English A IO Bullet Points Word Count
Students can bring one single sheet with a maximum of 10 bullet points to their English A IO. This applies to both English A: Literature and English A: Language and Literature students. The bullet points must be:

Concise – Students must not write a paragraph for each bullet point. Instead, the bullet points should be concise enough to be read quickly during the IO and prevent long pauses. Students must also not read directly from their notes and should use the bullet points only as guidelines.

Understandable – Conversely, the bullet points must not be so short that they are difficult to understand when quickly glancing at them during the IO. Ensure that the bullet points contain brief phrases, transition words and references to both extracts to help guide you through the IO.

Each bullet point should be no more than 20-30 words, and the total word count of all the bullet points combined should not exceed 300 words. For examples of good English A IO bullet points, see this post here.
Tips for Writing Effective Bullet Points

Use phrases, not sentences – The bullet points need to be easy to read at a glance. Long sentences will require a greater time to skim over and may result in taking long pauses during the IO, which can reduce your overall mark. Instead of writing sentences, include key phrases in your bullet to jog your memory and ensure you can formulate your thoughts quickly.

Include links to the global issue – The main purpose of the IO is to link two texts using a global issue. In your bullet points, you should make sure to include references to the global issue to help you keep your analysis on track. Ensure you have enough reminders for connecting both texts using the global issue you have chosen.

Practice without any notes – Before writing your bullet points, first try practicing your IO out loud and make a note of which topics you remember and which you don't. In this way, you can prioritize writing notes for the topics that you have trouble remembering, rather than wasting bullet points on writing down ideas that come easily to you.

We hope you found this post helpful in learning more about IB English A IO bullet points. Computer Science

Is your Computer Science IA deadline approaching and you are wondering about its updated requirements for the 2027 first assessment? Clastify has you covered! Read further to get familiarized with the new structure and word counts to better meet the assessment criteria.
Computer Science IA word count and page limit
The Computer Science Internal Assessment (IA) requires developing a computational software solution to a problem of your own choosing. The IA submission now consists of three main parts: documentation (a single PDF), a video of the product, and appendices. It is recommended to structure your report according to the five assessment criteria: Problem specification, Planning, System overview, Development, and Evaluation. There is no page limit but the word limit is 2000 words. The only information that is included in the word count is the series of documents that use text i.e the extended writing, that:

describes the scenario, client requirements and/or adviser input

justifies the rationale behind the proposed product

explains the techniques used to develop the product

evaluates the success of the product in resolving the original problem and client and/or adviser feedback

recommends further improvements to the product.

The remaining information does not account for the word count if it is used in the following styles*:

bullet points or tables to list information

scanned diagrams or other appropriate images as part of the design process

other styles of non-extended writing or diagrammatic representation such as flow charts, Gantt charts or spider diagrams where appropriate.

appendices and bibliography - if you're interested, see this examplar of appendices with full code.

excerpts of code

comments within the code

* But be careful not to misuse them! If overused, the examiner can include their contents in the word count. This will result in the exclusion of the final part of your IA, which exceeds the limit.

Criterion A: Problem specification
Begin your IA by describing the problem scenario and its measurable solution requirements. You must state appropriate success criteria and explain your choice of computational context. This section has a recommended length of 300 words.
Criterion B: Planning
This criterion assesses how you have decomposed the problem into manageable sub-problems. You should include a proposed chronology for your steps (often using GANTT or AGILE charts) and ensure the plan addresses your success criteria. Devote around 150 words to this part.
Criterion C: System overview
The system overview provides a model of your product, including its key components, user interface design, and their relationships. You must also include the algorithms (presented as flowcharts, pseudocode, or natural language) and a viable testing strategy table. We suggest using about 150 words here.

CAROUSEL

Criterion D: Development
As the most heavily weighted section, this will be your longest documentation piece. It is recommended to use approximately 1,000 words. In this section, you must:

Justify the structure of your product and why it is appropriate.

Demonstrate and evaluate the techniques used to implement your algorithms (e.g., loops, data structures, or existing libraries).

Describe and justify your testing strategy for correctness, reliability, and efficiency, referencing examples seen in your video.

Ensure all code excerpts are referenced to the full source code in the appendix and include relevant comments.

Criterion E: Evaluation
Allocate the remaining 400 words for the last criterion. Evaluate the product using the success criteria presented in criterion A. You should include the feedback from the client or advisor and suggest realistic recommendations for further improvement.
Video and Appendices

Video: You must submit a video (max 5 minutes) that demonstrates the full functionality of your product and provides evidence of your testing strategy.

Appendices: This must include your full source code. While examiners are not required to read it, you cannot receive full marks for Criterion D techniques if it is missing.

We hope you found this post helpful in learning more about the IB Computer Science IA word count and page limit. Essay

Are you in the process of writing your TOK essay? Are you aware of the word limit? Your work cannot exceed 1,600 words, however, there is no page limit. Keep reading this guide to find out Clastify's recommendations on how to allocate these words to best meet the assessment criteria. We base our tips on our extensive experience with helping IB students achieve the best marks for their coursework.
TOK essay word count
An appropriate word allocation is crucial for writing a balanced essay that will be in line with the assessment criteria. Your work should consist of the following sections the introduction, 1st Area of Knowledge, 2nd Area of Knowledge, and the conclusion.
Introduction
Begin your TOK essay with around 150 words of introduction, where you will state the chosen prescribed title, define key terms relevant to the context of your study, and briefly explain your approach to determining the answer to the title question. See here for reference.
First Area of Knowledge
Each Area of Knowledge should be approached from 2 contrary perspectives. Therefore we suggest devoting 2 paragraphs each of around 300 words to answer the research question in reference to the chosen AOK. State your claim and use examples from one subject to support them. Next, you will present an opposing view. Again you must justify the presented counterclaim making references to the analysed AOK and finally conclude your view on the topic. These paragraphs are worth taking a look at.
Second Area of Knowledge
Analogically, we recommend using another 600 words (2 x 300) to investigate the second Area of Knowledge in the context of the prescribed research question. See here to get a glimpse of the matter.

CAROUSEL

Conclusion
After having presented the various perspectives on the topic, use the remaining 250 words for the conclusion. Here, you will summarize your findings and state the answer to the research question. You should highlight the significance of analyzing this topic and offer ideas for further extensions of your study. See this exemplar for inspiration. Be careful, make sure to deduct the following because they are not included in the word count.:

Diagrams

Labels — of five words or fewer

Headings on diagrams — of 10 words or fewer

Tables data

Equations, formulae, and calculations

References (which, if used, must be in the footnotes/endnotes)

Bibliography

Appendices

We are hoping that you found this guide useful! Psychology

If you're about to begin writing your Psychology IA, knowing the word count is crucial for success. In this post, we'll not only provide the overall word count for the IA but also offer detailed guidance on how to allocate words to each section, helping you structure your IA effectively and stay within the limits. The word limits in this guide are only suggestions, so feel free to customize them as you see fit!
IB Psychology Word Count
The IA must not exceed 2,200 words, as examiners are not required to read beyond this limit. Therefore, it's crucial to stay within the word count to ensure all your work is considered. Note that while references and appendices are required, they are not included in the final word count. Now that you understand the overall word limit, let’s break down the recommended word count for each section of the Psychology IA. Allocating the right amount of words to each part is key to maintaining a focused and well-structured report.
Introduction
The Introduction should ideally range between 500 and 600 words because you must clearly state a focused aim, explain a real-world problem and its impact on your population of interest, and provide a brief literature review of two relevant studies. See this exemplar with a well-developed Introduction.

Research Methodology
For the Research Methodology section, we recommend 400 to 500 words, as this part requires a detailed justification for your chosen research method and a thorough explanation of your proposed procedure, including sampling techniques and a clear link to relevant ethical considerations. See this exemplar with a well-developed Research Methodology section.

Data Collection
The Data Collection section should be approximately 400 to 500 words to adequately explain the decisions made in creating your data collection tool, such as a questionnaire or observation checklists, and to discuss potential challenges like researcher bias or participant variability that could affect your findings. See this exemplar with a well-developed Data Collection section.

Discussion
The Discussion section is recommended to be 500 to 600 words because you must discuss potential findings and their implications for policy or practice, reflect on how your personal history and bias may have influenced the investigation, and justify one additional research method to gain a more holistic understanding of the topic. See this exemplar with a well-developed Discussion section. We hope you found this post helpful. Economics

Economics IA word count and page limit
Are you in the process of writing your Economics IA and you’re not sure how to structure it? How many words to devote to specific parts to get the best grade? Clastify comes to the rescue! Based on our experience and thousands of revised essays, we would like to present a structure that works best for written assessment in Economics. Read this text to clear your doubts and increase your chance of scoring a 7! When it comes to the structure, Economics IA consist of 3 separate commentaries of news articles, each based on a different unit of the syllabus: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and The global economy. There is no page limit, however each commentary cannot exceed 800 words.
Introduction
You should start your commentary with an introduction under 100 words, as presented in this exemplar. The first paragraph should include a brief presentation of the situation described in the article. You should also identify the key concept to which it refers: scarcity, choice, efficiency, equity, economic well-being, sustainability, change, interdependence, or intervention.
Diagrams
Next, the analyzed situation should be illustrated with the use of diagrams. The diagrams are not included in the word count (if labeled properly), whereas their explanation should take up to 200 words. In this part, you should describe all elements of the diagram and refer to them while explaining the shifts of the curves. It is also important to determine their impact on the stakeholders. Considering the limited word count, we suggest using 2 diagrams. You can see this part well-executed in this work.

CAROUSEL

Analysis
In the analysis of around 150 words, you should refer to the economic theory taught in the IB course to further explain the situation, as done in this IA. Do not ignore the additional factors presented in the article, if this case is not strictly per the theory, explain how the circumstances contribute to the economic turnout.
Evaluation
Evaluation is a crucial part of your work, therefore we suggest that you devote around 300 words to this section. After having presented the situation from the article you should propose a solution. In this part, you showcase your understanding of economic phenomena and the limitations of their countermeasures. For proper evaluation consider possible pros and cons, as presented in this exemplar, but you could also take into account the short and long-term effects of the proposed solution. End your commentary with a short conclusion, do not add any new information to this final paragraph. Remember that the suggested word distribution between the sections is approximate. However, we advise you to stick to the proposed ratio as this structure is common within the high-scoring exemplars. It ensures devoting appropriate attention to each of the sections, which is important considering that the commentary cannot exceed 800 words. Here you can find a highly-scored Clastify exemplar with a similar structure. Be careful, make sure to deduct the following because they are not included in the word count.:

Acknowledgments

Contents page

Diagrams

Labels — of five words or fewer

Headings on diagrams — of 10 words or fewer

Tables of statistical data

Equations, formulae and calculations

Citations (which, if used, must be in the body of the commentary)

References (which, if used, must be in the footnotes/endnotes)

For more tips regarding IAs from Economics and other subjects check out the remaining publications on the Clastify blog. Essays that are shorter than 3500 words often fail to address all aspects of the research question and leave the reader with an incomplete or limited understanding of the topic. You should also be mindful not to use filler words or run-on sentences just to make your essay longer and closer to the 4000-word mark. If your research question can effectively be answered in 3800 words, for example, it might be better to leave it at that amount than to use filler sentences or overly complex language to increase the number of words in your essay. For a detailed guide to the overall EE word count for each section and an explanation of what is not included in the word count, check out this post here. Keep in mind that this is only a general guide - the word count for each section can be adjusted as you see fit, depending on what subject you are doing your EE in. We hope this post has helped you learn more about the minimum EE word count. Philosophy

Philosophy IA word count and page limit
Are you starting to write your Philosophy IA? We know this process can be tricky therefore we prepared a short guide to help you get started. Continue reading this post to make sure your investigation follows the formal requirements. This internal assessment is a philosophical analysis of a chosen stimulus. As a philosophy student, you should identify and analyse a philosophical issue raised by the stimulus. When it comes to the formal requirements, your IA can be at most 2000 words, there is no page limit.
Stimulus description
You have to provide a copy of the analysed stimulus with your IA. If it exceeds 200 words or is in a form different than text (movie extract, radio recording etc.), you have to describe it in a maximum of 200 words. This part is not included in the word count, same as the bibliography and references.
Introduction
Begin your essay with around 300 words of introduction. Present the subject of your exploration, clearly identify the issue raised by the stimulus, and provide a sufficient justification of the connection between them. Utilize this section to offer background information regarding the stimuli, introducing the examiners to the context of your exploration. Also, define the key concepts or theories relating to the topic of your analysis. Check out this exemplar for inspiration.
Analysis and evaluation
Your response should contain a developed analysis of the chosen philosophical issue. You should apply a well-structured argumentative framework consisting of supportive arguments but also convincing counterarguments. Support each of them with an example or a suitable reference. In this section, you can demonstrate your extensive knowledge of different areas of philosophy and deep understanding of the issue. Don’t forget about the appropriate use of the specific terminology and to properly justify each point of view. This should be the longest part of your exploration and take up around 1,500 words. You can read a perfectly structured analysis here.

CAROUSEL

Conclusion
After having demonstrated the different perspectives on the philosophical issue raised by the stimulus, synthesize and evaluate them. State which argument you find most persuasive and why. Inform about the strengths and weaknesses of the chosen approaches in the analysis. Remember, not to add any new arguments here to make sure that the conclusion stays consistent with the previous parts of the exploration (and that enough justification is provided for every point of view). Devote the remaining 200 words for this final section. Take a look at this conclusion. The above word allocation between the different sections of the internal assessment is based on the received marked exemplars. We recommend to stick to this structure because it also reflects the assessment criteria and how many points are awarded for specific aspects of the essay. Are you in need of more philosophy exemplars to support your writing process? Worried your IB coursework might be over the word count and not sure whether to trim it down or take the risk? In this post, we’ll break down whether IB examiners actually check the word count – and what happens if they do.
Do IB Examiners check the word count?
Because IB markers are compensated per marked work and receive a large number of papers to assess, they’re often very busy and don’t usually take the time to count the exact number of words. This is especially relevant in subjects like the sciences, where calculating word count is much harder due to the inclusion of data, tables, graphs, and so on. A marker will typically only count the exact number of words if, while reading the work, they get the impression that it’s over the limit. If the work seems to be within the limit, chances are they won’t check it precisely. This is particularly true for science subjects, where counting words is time-consuming. In contrast, essay-based coursework like IAs or EEs in History, or the TOK Essay, make it much easier to assess word count – so in those cases, it’s more likely that the examiner will actually check. So, if a student goes slightly over the word count, there’s a chance the examiner might not notice. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you always submit your work within the word limit and don’t rely on the hope that the examiner won’t check. This is because if the examiner does realise the work is over the limit, it can seriously affect your grade. Examiners are not required to read anything beyond the word limit, which means – for example – they might skip your conclusion. That would mean your work gets marked as if it didn’t have a conclusion at all, which can have a catastrophic effect on your score. Therefore, we really can’t stress enough how important it is to stay within the word limit. So although building more concise sentences and searching for redundancies in works where everything seems to be essential may be exhausting and daunting, we strongly believe that it is worth struggle. We hope you found this post helpful. The IB Visual Arts Connections study is your opportunity to demonstrate your research skills and critical analysis by situating one of your own artworks in a wider cultural context. If you are currently working on your submission and are wondering about word counts, this post is for you! In this guide, we will outline the specific components of the project and the word count ranges you must follow.
IB Visual Arts Connections Study Word Count

The connections study is an SL-only external assessment task that focuses on investigating significant connections for one of your resolved artworks. Unlike the internal assessment body of work, this task specifically requires you to reflect on the links between artist, artwork, and audience. To complete this task, you must submit a PDF portfolio of up to 10 screens. While there is a maximum limit of 2,500 words for the entire PDF, the study is structured into discrete sections. You must state the exact total word count in your submission.

The study must cover the following components:

Connections with Context(s) – Detailed visual and written evidence demonstrating how your chosen resolved artwork connects with and communicates your own personal, local, or global context.

Connections with Artworks – Visual and written reflections on how your chosen artwork connects with and is situated in relation to at least two artworks by different artists. These connections can be conceptual, technical, or stylistic.

Investigation of Cultural Significance – Research and analysis of the cultural significance of the two selected artworks by other artists, considering their meaning in their original context and for different audiences across time and place.

We recommend that each section above be roughly around 800 words. Feel free to adjust this value as you see fit based on your chosen resolved artwork! Beyond the total word count, the quality of your visual evidence is essential. We recommend a horizontal on-screen format with approximately 250 words per screen to ensure your work remains clear and legible for the examiner.

We hope you found this post helpful in learning more about the IB Visual Arts Connections study word count. The IB Film Portfolio is your chance to show how you think, create, and problem-solve as a filmmaker. If you are in the process of completing your IB Film Portfolio and are wondering if there is a word count, this post is for you! In this guide, we will outline whether the IB Film Portfolio has a word count, as well as provide a suggested word count range for you to follow.
IB Film Portfolio Word Count
There is no strict word count for the IB film portfolio. However, students must ensure their film portfolios are detailed yet concise and cover various aspects of the filmmaking process related to the IB film portfolio roles they have chosen (e.g. director, cinematographer, etc.). For a detailed insight into the various IB film portfolio roles available to choose from, see this guide. For the film portfolio, students are required to submit portfolio pages and portfolio reels. The portfolio pages are descriptions of the written and visual components that demonstrate a student's knowledge and skills related to their chosen film production roles. The portfolio pages must include a description of the student's contributions as part of this role, visual evidence from the film reel with timestamps, and a reflection on difficulties faced during the filmmaking process. The portfolio should have a balance of text and visuals. and should be presented in a maximum of 9 pages (3 pages per production role), along with a list of sources at the end. Each production role should include a discussion of 3 clips from each film. See this exemplar for a more detailed insight. To stay within the page limit of the IB film portfolio pages, we recommend writing anywhere between 400-500 words per clip, adding up to approximately 1200-1500 words per production role. Of course, this value can change depending on the depth of your explanations as well as how many visuals or images you add, which can take up space on your portfolio pages. Apart from the portfolio pages, the portfolio reels are also submitted as part of your IB film portfolio. However, the film reels are meant to be in a video format and have a time limit of 9 minutes (3 minutes per reel), instead of having a word count or page limit. We hope you found this post helpful in learning more about the IB Film Portfolio word count. The IB Visual Arts Resolved Artworks task is your internal assessment (IA) opportunity to showcase your ability to create a coherent and professional body of work. If you are currently finalizing your five pieces and are wondering about word counts and submission requirements, this post is for you! In this guide, we will outline the specific components of the SL internal assessment and the word count limits you must follow.
IB Visual Arts Resolved Artworks Word Count
The resolved artworks component is an SL-only internal assessment that focuses on your ability to communicate artistic intentions through a collection of resolved artworks. This task contributes 40% of your final grade. Unlike the Art-making Inquiries Portfolio which documents your process, this task is about the final resolution and synthesis of your ideas. To complete this task, you must submit six mandatory files, including five digital representations of your artworks and a written rationale.

Rationale – This text is submitted as a PDF file of up to two screens and must articulate your artistic intentions as well as the technical, stylistic, and conceptual choices that informed your body of work. The rationale should be no more than 700 words.

Artwork Details – Each of your five artwork files must be accompanied by its title, medium, and size. These details, along with image labels, are not included in the main word count.

Finalized Intentions – Within the 700-word limit for the rationale, you should explain the overall meaning of your body of work and how individual pieces relate to one another. This citation list does not count towards the word limit.

Beyond the word count, the quality of your digital curation is essential. Each of your five artworks can be a high-quality image or a video file up to three minutes long. You also have the option to submit two additional supporting images per artwork to show specific details or different views, which can help examiners better understand your technical resolution. A good example of how to split up the words between your five artworks can be seen here.

We hope you found this post helpful in learning more about the IB Visual Arts Resolved Artworks word count.
