Welcome to our guide on the IB remark procedure, where we'll explain everything you need to know about getting a second review of your exams.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">&nbsp;</h2><h2 style="text-align:center;">IB Remark Procedure Explained</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The IB Remark Procedure, or as the IB calls it, the "Enquiry Upon Results" (EUR), is a service provided by the International Baccalaureate (IB) organization that allows students to request a review of their external or internal assessments if they believe their final grades do not accurately reflect their performance. This process involves a re-marking or re-assessment of the student's work by a senior examiner. It is important to mention, that a remark procedure can only be initiated with the permission of the school's IB Coordinator. Also, written consent of the candidate (or their legal guardian) is required. &nbsp;&nbsp;Students may request 4 different types of EuRs:&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Category 1 Remark &nbsp;– &nbsp;this type of EuR is used when students wish to have the externally assessed components of a subject re-marked. It is typically conducted by senior IB examiners to identify and correct any potential errors in the initial grading. It is important to mention that in a Category 1 EuR a student's grade may increase, remain the same or even decrease. Hence we strongly advise to carefully consider your situation before requesting this remark procedure.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Category 1 Report &nbsp;– &nbsp;since a Category 1 Remark may not include specific feedback, students who want to understand how their marks were awarded and identify the previous marking errors should request a Category 1 Report.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Category 2A &nbsp;– &nbsp;this type of EuR is available to only teachers and faculty members. Category 2A EuR is used when a teacher wishes to review given externally assessed component (e.g. Paper 2).&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Category 2B &nbsp;– &nbsp;this type of EuR is available to only teachers and faculty members. Category 2B EuR is used when a teacher wishes to review all of the externally assessed material in a given subject.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Category 3&nbsp; – &nbsp;this type of EuR is used when the average of the candidates' moderated IA marks differs significantly from the teacher-awarded marks, with a difference of at least 15% of the total marks for the subject's IA component. Students should email their Coordinator to initiate the process, and the Coordinator will handle the subsequent steps<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>Is the remark procedure worth it?</h3>&nbsp;Most students consider getting a Category 1 remark, which involves a re-mark of the entire external component of a given subject. The outcome of a remark can vary: grades might increase, decrease, or stay the same. Students should therefore carefully consider their situation before making the decision to request a remark. Remember to assess the importance of the potential grade increase. For instance, if the current grade is crucial for meeting university entry requirements, the benefits of a higher grade might outweigh the risks. Secondly, think about your performance on the exam. If you are only a few points from the upper grade boundary, a remark may turn out to be very helpful. However, it's essential to weigh these potential benefits against the risks and costs. There's a chance the grade could go down, and the remark process itself is expensive, costing around 89 euros. If your IB exams are coming up and you’re unsure about what to bring – or what’s not allowed – you’re in the right place. In this post, we’ll cover everything you should bring to your exams and what you should avoid bringing to ensure a smooth session.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">&nbsp;</h2><h2 style="text-align:center;">What to bring for an IB Exam?</h2>&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>Writing tools</h3>&nbsp;<ul><li>Pens: Always carry at least two black or blue ink-based pens. Having a backup ensures that if one stops working, you can switch seamlessly without disrupting your rhythm or causing unnecessary stress. Avoid water-based pens, as they may not scan properly.</li><li>Pencils: Bring a pencil for subjects like Biology, where you may need to make sketches. Pencils are also essential for MCQ exams, as you’ll need to transfer your answers to an answer sheet. Make sure your pencils are 2B or 2HB; other types may not be read properly by the scanning machine.&nbsp;</li><li>Erasers and sharpeners: A clean eraser will help you keep your work neat, and a sharpener will ensure that your pencils are always ready.</li><li>Rulers and other geometric tools: It also may be a good idea to bring a ruler or other geometric tools, especially for subjects where you may be asked to create sketches.&nbsp;</li><li>Highlighters: You may also wish to bring highlighters to help you highlight important information in the source materials provided. This will occur in the IB-mandated post-exam 2-hour quarantine that has been recently introduced to prevent any cross-timezone academic dishonesty.&nbsp;</li><li>To ensure that your exam runs smoothly, make sure to check whether your calculator is fully charged the night before. It may also be a good idea to bring spare batteries to the examination room with you.&nbsp;</li></ul>&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>Water and snacks</h3>&nbsp;<ul><li>Make sure to bring yourself a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated during the exam. As of 2025, you are no longer permitted to bring a wristwatch to the examination hall, even if it is merely an analogue clock.&nbsp;</li></ul><h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>Pencil cases</h3>&nbsp;<ul><li>Many students prefer to keep their exam essentials – such as pencils, pens, highlighters, and other tools – organised in a pencil case. This post will provide an overview of the general trends, as well as more specific details for Math and Science subjects.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">IB Results November 2025</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">General Trends</h3>&nbsp;Overall performance was strongly in the middle achievement bands, with most candidates receiving grades between 4 and 6. Across all subjects combined, the overall mean subject grade was 4.6, confirming that results remained centred slightly above the passing threshold rather than being concentrated at the highest grade levels.&nbsp;At a subject-group level, clear performance differences were observed between disciplines. The sciences recorded a mean grade of 4.4 across 21,477 students, while mathematics recorded a lower mean grade of 4.1 across 17,295 students. By comparison, language acquisition and language and literature subjects showed higher average scores, reinforcing the recurring pattern that mathematically intensive and analytical subjects produced lower average grades and a wider range of results.&nbsp;A further trend observed in the data was the relatively small proportion of top grades in quantitative subjects. In both mathematics and the sciences, grades 6 and 7 accounted for a noticeably smaller share of results than grades 4 and 5, indicating that high-level mastery remained difficult to achieve.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Trends in Mathematics</h3>&nbsp;In Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA), results were more widely dispersed and overall performance was lower than in the applied pathway. At Higher Level, 3,384 candidates achieved a mean grade of 5.1, while at Standard Level, 7,871 candidates achieved a considerably lower mean grade of 3.9. The distribution in both levels was strongly centred on grades 4 and 5, with comparatively fewer students achieving grades 6 and 7.&nbsp;In contrast, Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (AI) showed a more favourable and stable profile. At Higher Level, 642 students achieved a mean grade of 4.1, and at Standard Level, 5,398 students achieved a mean grade of 3.6. Although both AI levels still showed clustering in the middle bands, the proportion of students achieving grades 5 and above was slightly higher than in the AA pathway.&nbsp;Overall, the data confirmed that Mathematics AA remained the more academically demanding route, particularly at Standard Level, where the mean grade fell below 4.0. The applied and modelling-based structure of AI appeared to support more consistent performance for a broader range of candidates.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Trends in the Sciences</h3>&nbsp;Across all science subjects combined, 21,477 students produced a mean grade of 4.4, placing the sciences below languages and close to mathematics in overall difficulty. Clear differences were observed between individual science disciplines and between Standard and Higher Level courses.&nbsp;Biology showed the strongest overall outcomes within the sciences. At Higher Level, 3,354 students achieved a mean grade of 4.6, while at Standard Level, 5,117 students achieved a lower mean grade of 3.8. This gap indicated that the additional content and analytical requirements at Higher Level were associated with a noticeable reduction in overall performance.&nbsp;Chemistry produced a more polarized profile. At Higher Level, 2,906 candidates achieved a comparatively high mean grade of 5.4, while at Standard Level, 3,098 candidates recorded a mean grade of only 4.1. This represented one of the largest HL–SL performance gaps in the sciences.&nbsp;Physics continued to be one of the most demanding science subjects. In order to pass, students must achieve at least 24 points, with at least 12 points from HL subjects. &nbsp;It is important to mention that out of the 45 points, 42 points are attainable from subject grades, with the additional 3 points attainable from the IB Core Components.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Subject Grades&nbsp;</h3>&nbsp;Each of the 6 IB subjects is graded on a scale from 1 to 7, with 7 being the highest possible score. The grades reflect the student's performance in both External and Internal Assessment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h4>External Assessment&nbsp;</h4>&nbsp;The External Assessments are, as the name suggests, marked externally (i.e. not by the student's school) by examiners appointed by the IBO. External Assessments primarily consist of written exams, taken at the end of the course in DP2. Typically, subjects have 2-3 exam papers, with an additional paper for those taking the subject at the HL level. It is important to mention that some subjects, such as Music, may also include coursework in addition to written exams, with both components marked externally.&nbsp;<h4>Internal Assessment&nbsp;</h4>&nbsp;The Internal Assessment is an investigation into a topic chosen by the student that contributes to their final subject grade and is evaluated internally by the school. To view your grades you must login using your student personal code and a PIN provided by your IB Coordinator. Most schools will provide this information a few hours before the results are available. It is therefore best to check with your specific universities for their preferred method and ensure that you follow their instructions promptly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Keep in mind that with the huge amounts of candidate scores to process, universities may take several days or even weeks to confirm your place. If you have been waiting for an extended period of time and you're starting to get worried, it is best to contact your university.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>What should I do if my IB results are lower than expected?</h3>&nbsp;First and foremost, do not panic! There's a few options available that might help improve your situation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Firstly, if you missed your offer by a few marks, you may consider requesting an IB Category 1 remark. IB examiners often make minor mistakes when marking exams and if you're just a few points under the upper grade boundary there's a chance your grade may increase. In this post, we’ll walk you through how to send your IB results to universities in the UK , US, Netherlands, and more!&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">How to send IB results to universities?</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>US universities&nbsp;</h3>&nbsp;In your final year of the IB Diploma Programme, with the assistance of your DP Coordinator, you can select up to six choices to receive your results automatically once they’re released. Be sure to include your U.S. college choices in these slots, as the IB sends the results directly to the selected universities, usually in early July for the May exam session. Most U.S. universities receive them electronically, but if a university doesn’t accept electronic delivery, you can request the IB to send the results via post. If you didn’t choose a university before the results were released or need to send them to additional institutions, you can request this through the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://rrs.ibo.org/replacement_orders/index.cfm">IB portal</a> for a fee.&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>UK universities</h3>&nbsp;If you’ve applied to UK universities through UCAS, you don’t need to worry about sending your IB results yourself. You have six slots available before your exams to specify where your results will be sent, and it’s essential to include UCAS as one of these options. Once you do, UCAS will automatically distribute your scores to the universities you’ve chosen as your firm and insurance choices. Be sure to check with your IB Coordinator to confirm that UCAS is listed among your selections.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Dutch universities&nbsp;</h3>&nbsp;To send your IB results to Dutch universities, start by checking the specific requirements of the universities you're interested in, as some may have particular procedures for international applicants. Generally, for most institutions, all you need to do is include them in the available slots in the IB student portal. The IB will then automatically send your results to the universities listed in the portal.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Irish universities</h3>&nbsp;Sending your IB results to Irish universities is quite similar to the process for UK universities. Simply ensure that the CAO (Central Applications Office) is included in one of the six designated slots.
