[15]&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>How to succeed in Economics Paper 2?</h3>&nbsp;To do well in Paper 2, it’s important to have a solid understanding of all the topics. The 1–4 mark questions don’t require much evaluation, so if you know the syllabus well, you should do fine. We suggest spending no more than 50 minutes on these questions, so you have at least 55 minutes for the final essay. Throughout the paper, make sure to refer to the provided data and materials, using them to support your answers.&nbsp; The 15 marker generally requires more in-depth analysis, evaluation, and references to case studies. The last question is where you must engage in deeper critical thinking and provide well-developed arguments. To start strongly, it is important to begin your answer by defining all key terms in the question. Also, ensure your response is saturated with case studies and references to the provided material. You may also want to include diagrams in your response. Ensure that all your diagrams are drawn clearly, proportionally, and properly labeled. Lastly, it is crucial to remember to take a few minutes to plan your response before you start writing as this will ensure that your essay is well-structured, logical, and easy to follow. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We hope you found this post helpful. Students answer questions with reference and analysis of the provided information&nbsp;</li><li>Paper 2 may cover all 5 units of the syllabus</li><li>Students must be equipped with the skills of analysing and presenting information.</li></ul>&nbsp;&nbsp;A typical Section A question may look like this:&nbsp;Florian Stones (FS) sells handmade bracelets made from natural stones. FS enjoys strong brand awareness. Table 2 shows forecasted figures for FS for the year ending 31 December 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;<figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td>Fixed costs</td><td>$15 000</td></tr><tr><td>Variable costs per bracelet</td><td>$40</td></tr><tr><td>Price per bracelet</td><td>$70</td></tr><tr><td>Number of bracelets produced</td><td>800</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>&nbsp;(a) Define the term ''brand awareness'' [2]&nbsp;(b) Using Table 2, draw a fully labelled break-even chart, to scale, for 2022. [4]&nbsp;(c) Using Table 2, calculate:&nbsp;(i) the profit or loss in 2022 for FS if its production and sales increases to 1200. CD has created an overseas supply chain in which all ingredients for its chocolate bars are imported to New Zealand.&nbsp;(a) Describe one feature of a supply chain [2]&nbsp;CD is aware that overseas suppliers use palm oil* in the production of chocolate bars. Palm oil production is damaging to the environment, so CD has decided to produce a new ethical chocolate bar that contains only a quarter of the palm oil used in its other chocolate bars. These new ethical chocolate bars will be considerably more expensive than the chocolate bars in CD’s current range and will be priced using a premium pricing method. Part of the profits from the sales of the new chocolate bars will be used to finance sustainable palm oil production to reduce the impact on the environment.&nbsp;(b) Explain one advantage and one disadvantage for CD of using a premium pricing method for the new ethical chocolate bar. [4]&nbsp;CD is considering exporting the ethical chocolate bars to consumers in new overseas markets. It has identified three possible target countries: X, Y and Z. CD used a random sampling method of 500 consumers in each of the three countries to carry out market research. The new ethical chocolate bar is to be launched in 2024. The results of the market research are given in Table 4.&nbsp;Table 4&nbsp;<figure class="table" style="width:98.79%;"><table class="ck-table-resized"><colgroup><col style="width:13.71%;"><col style="width:29%;"><col style="width:29.7%;"><col style="width:27.59%;"></colgroup><thead><tr><th>Possible target country</th><th>Percentage of respondents who would try the new ethical chocolate bar</th><th>Percentage of respondents who would possibly try the new chocolate bar</th><th>Percentage of respondents who would not try the new chocolate bar</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>X</td><td>60%</td><td>32%</td><td>8%</td></tr><tr><td>Y</td><td>42%</td><td>38%</td><td>20%</td></tr><tr><td>Z</td><td>28%</td><td>62%</td><td>10%</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>&nbsp;(c) Comment on the market research in Table 4. [2]&nbsp;(d) Explain one benefit for CD of collecting market research using random sampling. [2]&nbsp;CD has employed an economics consultancy to review the current and future economic situation in each of the three possible target countries in which it wants to launch the new ethical chocolate bar. The chocolate bar is expected to be priced higher than the chocolate bars of CD’s competitors in all three countries. No ethical chocolate bars are currently produced by these competitors.&nbsp;&nbsp; The consultancy:&nbsp;<ul><li>forecasted economic conditions for each possible target country for 2024 and 2028 &nbsp;</li><li>used data from the last six years and estimated the probability of CD’s success upon entering each market based on the experiences of other confectionery manufacturers&nbsp;</li><li>carried out an extensive STEEPLE analysis for each possible target country.</li></ul>&nbsp;Table 5&nbsp;<figure class="table"><table><thead><tr><th>Target country</th><th>Forecasted economic conditions in 2024</th><th>Forecasted economic conditions in 2028</th><th>Probability of success</th><th>STEEPLE analysis summary</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>X</td><td>Stable</td><td>Worsening</td><td>0.42</td><td>Favourable to business</td></tr><tr><td>Y</td><td>Improving</td><td>Stable</td><td>0.58</td><td>No clear trend but limited technology</td></tr><tr><td>Z</td><td>Declining</td><td>Strongly improving</td><td>0.79</td><td>Concerns, especially about political in the future</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>&nbsp;(e) Using the data provided in Table 4 and Table 5, and other information in the stimulus, recommend which target country CD should launch its new ethical chocolate bar in [10]&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>How to succeed in Business Management Paper 2?</h3>&nbsp;To do well in Paper 2 of IB Business Management, you need a strong understanding of the syllabus and good analytical skills. The introduction should begin by introducing the topic and presenting a thesis statement that outlines the main argument of the essay. For example, if a student chose to answer question (a) from Topic 10 they may state that the use of force was an important factor in maintaining power in authoritarian states however other factors such as legal measures and propaganda were even more significant.&nbsp;&nbsp; The main body of the essay should then develop these points, with each paragraph focusing on one key factor. For instance, a paragraph could explore the use of force, referring to events like the Night of the Long Knives in Germany or the murder of Matteotti in Italy. The next paragraph could discuss legal measures, such as the banning of political parties, while a third could analyze the role of propaganda, mentioning examples like the use of youth groups or asserting control over the media. It’s important to include references to two authoritarian states, such as Germany and Italy, to provide examples and strengthen the argument.&nbsp;&nbsp; In the conclusion, students should summarize the main points made in the essay and restate the thesis, making sure to tie everything together clearly.&nbsp;&nbsp; When writing essays, it’s vital to directly address the question and avoid going off-topic. Students should also pay attention to specific command terms, which indicate what the question is asking for. Make sure to check out our <a href="/blog/ib-history-command-terms" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IB History Command Terms</a> post to ensure you are well-familiarised with the requirements of each command term. Also, since students have only 45 minutes per essay, it’s important to frequently practice with past paper questions as this will allow to get used to writing clear and well-structured essays within the time limit.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We hope you found this post helpful. To what extent do you agree with this claim?&nbsp;&nbsp; For the second integrating question, students may encounter questions that look like these:&nbsp; To what extent does the pursuit of state sovereignty undermine both human rights and sustainable development?&nbsp; To what extent can legitimacy and accountability be maintained when international organizations intervene in both conflict zones and development projects?&nbsp; In a globalized world, is the concept of national interest compatible with the promotion of global justice and peace?&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>How to succeed in Paper 2</h3>&nbsp;To do well in Paper 2, it’s important that your responses are clearly written, logically structured, and make consistent use of political terminology. Begin by defining key concepts in your introduction to show a strong grasp of the syllabus and create a solid foundation for your argument.&nbsp;&nbsp; In your analysis you should evaluate political issues using real-world examples, such as case studies and the actions of different actors (states, IGOs, NGOs, social movements etc.). Make sure to always ask yourself why a situation is politically significant and how it connects to the key themes of the course.&nbsp;&nbsp; To show critical thinking, engage with different perspectives and include counterarguments where relevant. Make sure to also offer your own personal judgment as this helps tie your argument together and shows depth of understanding.&nbsp; Also, one of the most effective ways to prepare for Paper 1 is by practicing past papers under timed, exam-like conditions. This helps you get comfortable with the structure and strengthens your skill in answering exactly what the question is asking within the time limit. Similarly, the syllabus is the same for all Language B choices.&nbsp;&nbsp; In this blog will provide an IB English B sample question to allow everybody, no matter their language choice, to understand what they may expect in the exam.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Listening comprehension</h3><h3>&nbsp;</h3>A typical listening comprehension section may look the following way:&nbsp;Based on Recording B, answer the following questions.&nbsp;<ol><li>Where did Andrew hear Governor Hadley promise not to develop Pointer Lake? [1]</li><li>How long has Director Solano been the director of the Economic Development Agency? [1]</li><li>What consideration does Andrew contrast with Director Solano’s main responsibility? [1]</li><li>How does Director Solano describe the designers of the Lewans Junction project? [1]</li></ol>&nbsp;&nbsp;To succeed in the IB Language B Paper 2 listening comprehension section, use the 4 minutes of preview time wisely by carefully reading the questions and identifying key details to listen for. Focus on keywords like names, dates, places, and emotions, and be prepared for synonyms or paraphrased phrases instead of exact matches. Remember to stay engaged with the audio – if you miss something, don’t dwell on it or spend too much time on one question; instead, keep listening and move on to the next questions. The recording is played twice, so if you don’t catch something the first time, you’ll have another chance on the second try. Regular past paper practice is crucial, as IB recordings often feature various accents, making it essential to familiarize yourself with different pronunciation styles to improve comprehension.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Reading comprehension</h3>&nbsp;A typical reading comprehension section may look the following way:&nbsp;Based on the Text A, choose the five true statements. [5]<ul><li>Singaporeans keep themselves informed of current affairs.</li><li>Unlike his countrymen, Lauw reads the news both in print and online.</li><li>Lauw is upset about the lack of reliability in online news sources.</li><li>Lauw observes that mainstream media are more trustworthy than online ones.</li><li>When more people read online news, its reliability becomes more questionable.</li><li>When more people read online news, its trustworthiness increases.</li><li>The sole providers in the past were print and broadcasting companies.&nbsp;</li><li>News outlets in the past were staffed by professionals.</li><li>News editors in the past valued both precision and objectivity.</li><li>Social media nowadays are not used solely for their original purpose.</li><li>Social media play a pivotal role in conveying dated news.</li><li>People must follow detailed guidelines when reading news online.</li></ul>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To succeed in the IB Language B Paper 2 reading comprehension section, start by skimming the text quickly to get a general idea before diving into the questions. Then, carefully read each question and highlight keywords that will help you locate relevant information in the passage. When reading, focus on synonyms and paraphrased phrases, as the wording in the questions may not match exactly with the text. If you come across unfamiliar words, use context clues to infer their meaning instead of getting stuck. Manage your time wisely – don’t spend too long on a single question; if unsure, make an educated guess and move on. Regular past paper practice is essential, as it helps improve speed, accuracy, and familiarity with different text types and question formats.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We hope you found this post helpful. Each question is worth 15 marks, and your responses must be structured, in-depth essays that demonstrate critical thinking, strong argumentation, and thorough engagement with anthropological ideas. This paper requires students to write analytically, support their points with multiple ethnographic examples, and consider counterarguments.&nbsp; In Section A, students are asked to respond to a question that links a key concept, an area of inquiry, and a real-world issue. The goal is to demonstrate your ability to think holistically, making clear connections between these three elements. Strong responses in this section will clearly define the key concept, explain how the area of inquiry is relevant, and use anthropological thinking to address the real-world issue at hand. This includes applying ethnographic case studies and theoretical perspectives to support your argument. Your essay should go beyond simply describing examples – it should explain their significance and analyze how they contribute to your overall argument.&nbsp;&nbsp; In Section B SL students write one essay from a different area of inquiry than the one used in Section A, while HL students write two essays, each from a different area of inquiry not covered in Section A. Here, you should show that you understand different cultural practices, represent multiple perspectives, and are able to apply anthropological theories appropriately. A successful essay will not only present evidence but will analyze it, draw connections, and explore its implications and potential limitations. &nbsp;&nbsp; You should aim to structure your essays with a strong introduction, well-organized paragraphs, and a conclusion that ties everything together. Also, remember that practice is crucial and hence we recommend solving past papers under timed conditions.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We hope you found this post helpful. With reference to one religion—Judaism or Christianity or Islam—discuss attitudes to abortion.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>How to succeed in World Religions Paper 2?</h3>&nbsp;World Religions Paper 2 is an entirely essay-based paper. The types of questions you’ll encounter often ask you to examine the significance of a key belief, practice, or concept (such as Kabbalah, tafsir, or the authority of scripture), or to evaluate a provocative statement (“The most important role of Allah is creator”). You will also be provided with a possibility to answer an open-ended and issue-based question, like those that ask about attitudes toward abortion. The questions in Paper 2 demand not only strong knowledge of the religion in question but also the ability to construct a well-structured, balanced, and thoughtful essay. Hence, essay writing skills are absolutely essential for success. You need to be able to present a clear argument, structure your thoughts logically, and support your ideas with relevant evidence from religious texts, traditions, and customs.&nbsp; The most effective way to develop this skill is through consistent practice with past paper questions. For efficient preparation, we recommend regularly creating detailed essay outlines – spending around 15 minutes per outline. Aim to complete as many outlines as possible, as this will help you plan strong, structured essays without the time commitment of writing each one in full. However, don’t neglect full essay practice entirely. Be sure to write out complete responses occasionally, simulating real exam conditions: set aside the full allotted time, put away your notes, and eliminate all distractions.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We hope you found this post helpful.
