Theory of knowledge exhibition is a part of the TOK assessment that allows you to show the applicability of the concepts learned in the course to the analysis of real-world problems, represented by 3 chosen objects. Although this task might seem a little bit abstract, the prompts (questions prepared by IB) are designed to help you view and break down the issues in your environment in the “TOK way”.&nbsp;Don’t know where to start your journey with the TOK exhibition? We’ve prepared a breakdown of all the prompts to help you start your writing process. We also linked (in blue) the exemplars available on Clastify of the exhibitions that tackle each of the prompts. Let the work begin!&nbsp;<ol><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6172645e14211400137e243f" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What counts as knowledge?</a> This question challenges you to determine if some concepts (like opinions or feelings) can be understood as a form of “knowledge”, a fundamental term in the TOK course. What will determine the suitability of this term in your situation? Will some pieces of information become knowledge in special circumstances, or only to certain people?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6125040fc7828e0013ce1e09" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Are some types of knowledge more useful than others?</a> Here you can discuss both the criteria for being “useful” (for whom and for what?), as well as the applicability of the term to different forms of knowledge (for example, within sciences and arts). You can also think about why we need to label knowledge as “useful”.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/650aa077506adbb914a9fabe" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What features of knowledge have an impact on its reliability?</a> Similarly to the previous question, first analyze what “reliability” means. Then you can analyze the features that ensure it - is it more about the source of knowledge, the form of its presentation, or something else entirely?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/other/615a65a2f385a20013022108" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">On what grounds might we doubt a claim?</a> Think about what prompts you to doubt the information you obtain. Do you compare it with your own knowledge? What makes you suspect that a claim is not based on facts?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/62d174658af69200139b4734" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What counts as good evidence for a claim?</a> How do we back up our statements? Do people tend to appeal to some visual evidence (like photos or documents), testimonies of witnesses, or the way a claim is structured? Analyze it.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64cb343c735725001273d7fa" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How does the way that we organize or classify knowledge affect what we know?</a> Most of the knowledge we obtain from the outside world is classified in one way or another. Think about various forms of organization, particularly the effect of labels on our understanding of some concepts or objects (like recognition of different social groups or classification of species)&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/61349b22c114900013b65a67" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What are the implications of having, or not having, knowledge?</a> Obtaining knowledge can have both positive and negative consequences, depending on both the type of situation and the pursued knowledge. One person can be both shunned or praised for possessing certain information, like the ability to influence other people. Can you think of any other examples?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64d90bd26444cd0013a8167a" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">To what extent is certainty attainable?</a> What does it mean to be certain? When you have the answer to this question, explore both what increases your certainty about some claim and what can limit it. Do doubts always exclude certainty?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6324a3a10394b4001338e9a9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Are some types of knowledge less open to interpretation than others?</a> Oftentimes we believe some concepts (like scientific claims) to be more rigid and universal in their meaning than others (like works of art or feelings). Think about what makes us believe this way, and whether this distinction is valid at all.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63c0099bd20b8d001326a489" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What challenges are raised by the dissemination and/or communication of knowledge?</a> The spread of knowledge is certainly useful, but does it impact its features? Analyze whether communication of knowledge can influence its reliability, certainty, or other traits.</li></ol>&nbsp;<pre><code class="language-plaintext">CAROUSEL</code></pre>&nbsp;<ol start="11"><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63c7f73bdbb839001334cf8c" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Can new knowledge change established values or beliefs?</a> Sometimes we might believe that newly discovered concepts should replace the previously accepted views. However, does it always need to be so, and what criteria does the knowledge need to satisfy to challenge the already established beliefs? Do the values of communities change with the expansion of the fields of knowledge?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6162d00982a3370013ec6f05" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Is bias inevitable in the production of knowledge?</a> Similarly, as above, start with the analysis of the word “bias”, and then discuss its sources. Are some ways of obtaining knowledge less (or more) prone to bias?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6338ab242088dc0013706fb8" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How can we know that current knowledge is an improvement upon past knowledge?</a> What does it mean that our knowledge “improves”? Think about what helps scientists, discoverers, and others to determine if new findings should be accepted and the previous ones disproven.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/611302fac7828e0013ce1567" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Does some knowledge belong only to particular communities of knowers?</a> Can every person truly obtain all forms of knowledge, especially the ones that are most subjective, like opinions, feelings, or religious beliefs? Does understanding a feeling or empathizing with others truly allow us to gain the knowledge or perception of that certain community?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/61508f06e7d76100138e3593" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What constraints are there on the pursuit of knowledge?</a> The capability to obtain knowledge is certainly limited. There are numerous factors to be considered - psychological, ethical, or physical. How does being a human impact our ability to pursue certain forms of knowledge?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64cb4ca8735725001273d836" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Should some knowledge not be sought on ethical grounds?</a> Ethics are one of the most challenging parts of the knowledge framework in the TOK course. Think about what would prevent you from gaining certain information - maybe respect for others' privacy or dignity? What are the consequences of seeking knowledge without regard for someone else’s well-being?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64baa47450e28d001316744a" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Why do we seek knowledge?</a> Why do people aim to gain knowledge? Analyze whether it is due to our "human nature", or maybe because of the usefulness of certain information. Can we seek knowledge just for fun?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/634004da153d090014697c72" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Are some things unknowable?</a> We would like to think that everything is within the scope of our perception, yet some concepts (like love, truth or the afterlife) seem to be quite elusive. Are these temporary obstacles or unresolvable challenges?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64c0b005f8603e0013d649e8" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What counts as a good justification for a claim?</a> List different tools for justifying a claim and try to rank them, for example, according to their usefulness or reliability. Will you apply different criteria to claims that arise in various areas of knowledge?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64c264c6f8603e0013d65d7f" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What is the relationship between personal experience and knowledge?</a> Personal experience might be a source of knowledge, but it can also impact our view of and acceptance of the facts that we obtain. Have you ever questioned the reliability of some claims based on your personal history with a certain situation (like a description of a past event or a political statement)?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64f81924a71635999c9080dd" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What is the relationship between knowledge and culture?</a> Shared knowledge forms a significant part of the culture, but does the culture of a certain community influence the way they accept or interpret knowledge? Think about what shared beliefs or values in society impact the way you view the world.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/638783e75573ed0013c40abc" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What role do experts play in influencing our consumption or acquisition of knowledge?</a> Can you think about a situation in which experts’ opinions impacted what knowledge you accepted, for example when confronted with conflicting information? Analyze what sources of information you consume and who are the “experts” you and the people around you trust the most. Why is that?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/62e021d13990180013ce48b9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How important are material tools in the production or acquisition of knowledge?</a> Knowledge is produced not only through words and texts, but also through objects that you can touch, move and shape, and which are also limited by their physical properties (like the uncertainty of measuring equipment). First identify the tools used in different areas of knowledge (what do scientists, historians, or mathematicians utilize in their daily work?) and then discuss their impact on the acquisition of knowledge.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63369621d77add00134d8582" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How might the context in which knowledge is presented influence whether it is accepted or rejected?</a> Firstly, should our acceptance of certain types of knowledge depend on its presentation? Think about what contexts increase the chance of acceptance - the types of texts, speeches by experts, advertisements?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/648994eea5cbc80012ad68b5" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How can we distinguish between knowledge, belief and opinion?</a> These three terms are often used interchangeably, but the label we choose to use can often impact the reliability of our claims. Think about in which contexts can an opinion become knowledge. What do you think about “personal knowledge”?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/6341ca85153d090014698a8b" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Does our knowledge depend on our interactions with other knowers?</a> Producing knowledge is often a collaborative process, whether in creating group projects or working in a lab. But it also impacts the way we understand and rely on knowledge - how do interactions with teachers, peers, or strangers change our perception of certain information?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64a6f408701b5600139b42a6" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Does all knowledge impose ethical obligations on those who know it?</a> It’s best to start with determining the types of knowledge that might raise ethical issues, and then work out the areas that produce the least of such problems. Think about the reasons for knowers not being able or, alternatively, being obliged to share certain information.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63c69189f18f2200138bd817" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">To what extent is objectivity possible in the production or acquisition of knowledge?</a> Once again, figure out the definition of “objectivity”. Then, discuss in which areas of knowledge reaching objectivity poses the greatest challenge and in which it is almost automatically assumed.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64bbdaa850e28d00131698dd" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Who owns knowledge?</a> Does knowledge belong to all of us, or is it a property of certain people? It definitely depends on its type! Write about what forms of knowledge might be owned by specific people (it’s also an excellent occasion to discuss the issues with copyright).&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/62d801437ded760014fe701c" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What role does imagination play in producing knowledge about the world?</a> Some areas of knowledge (like arts) are more commonly associated with the use of imagination. But what is its role in other areas, especially the ones requiring abstract thinking (for example science or mathematics)?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/62ee60652a89a40013e706cc" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How can we judge when evidence is adequate?</a> Try to come up with some criteria for evaluating evidence. Do you consider the scope of evidence, its source, and the form in which it’s presented?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63c6fe31dbb839001334cd2a" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">What makes a good explanation?</a> Explanations are only as good as their availability to break down and give meaning to the described concepts. How do you make an explanation coherent, easy to understand, and accurate?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/64cacc72735725001273c211" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How is current knowledge shaped by its historical development?</a> Sometimes historical pathways of developing knowledge influence further direction in its evolution, for example, future areas of research or new art styles. Try to look for examples within all areas of knowledge.&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/63858ebb5573ed0013c3eb57" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">In what ways do our values affect our acquisition of knowledge?</a> What kinds of values determine the forms of knowledge we choose to pursue? Maybe some values (like ethical ones) prevent us from exploring certain concepts? Think about values that knowers might have - is it integrity, respect, curiosity?&nbsp;</li><li><a href="/tok/exhibition/61753268610b200013237e27" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">In what ways do values affect the production of knowledge?</a> This is a very similar question to the one above. Here, focus more on the areas in which knowledge is created - what values do scientists or artists have? 35 TOK Exhibition Prompts

Essay

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a core component of the IB Diploma Programme that challenges students to reflect on the nature of knowledge and how we "know what we know". TOK explores different ways of knowing and areas of knowledge, thus ensuring students develop critical thinking. In this post, we will go over the TOK concepts in depth so you are fully informed about what each one means before you get started on your TOK essay and exhibition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">TOK Key Concepts</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;TOK contains 12 key concepts which help students analyze how knowledge is constructed, evaluated, and influenced. These can be useful to know when completing both the TOK essay as well as the TOK exhibition. The 12 key concepts are outlined below.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Certainty</h3>&nbsp;Certainty refers to the degree of confidence we have in knowledge claims. Some areas of knowledge, such as mathematics, seem to have a high degree of certainty through logical reasoning and proofs, while other subjects, like history and ethics, are more subjective and lack certainty. Students should be mindful that we cannot be certain about everything, as some topics have no measurable index of certainty. Certainty can also depend on a person's values - what feels certain to one person may seem questionable to another. Grasping this key concept involves an understanding of how "sure" we can be of certain things.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Culture</h3>&nbsp;Culture refers to the shared beliefs and values held by a particular group in society. Exploring this key concept allows students to understand how culture can shape what knowledge is valued and how it is interpreted. This is because various cultures prioritize different methods of sustaining knowledge (e.g. oral versus written records of knowledge). The interconnections between culture and society can be studied to see how knowledge is propagated among people of a particular culture or even between different cultures.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Evidence</h3>&nbsp;Evidence is any information or knowledge that is used to support a knowledge claim or argument. As such, evidence can either be logical (based on facts and sound reasoning) or empirical (based on observations and experiments). In this key concept, students are encouraged to discuss how evidence can be used to analyze a knowledge claim. The quality of evidence depends on the methodology, the source of the evidence, and how the evidence is interpreted.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Explanation</h3>&nbsp;This key concept involves making knowledge understandable by providing reasons and justifications for something that occurred. Students are advised to be mindful that different perspectives can lead to multiple explanations for the same event. The best explanations are coherent, well-supported, and appropriate to the context of the event or incident that occurred.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Interpretation</h3>&nbsp;This key concept discusses how we make sense of things and information around us. In short, how do we understand information from the world around us? Students should be mindful that this process of interpretation can vary based on perspective from person to person. Students should consider the impact of misinterpretation on how knowledge is understood, used, and shared.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Justification</h3>&nbsp;Justification refers to the reasons or evidence that are used to support a particular knowledge claim. This outlines the reasoning that one can provide for their point of view to be better understood (i.e. how one's actions/words can be justified through examples and reasoning). Students are encouraged to develop strong reasoning to support any knowledge claims they make.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Objectivity&nbsp;</h3>&nbsp;This key concept refers to knowledge that is free from bias and personal influence, and hence takes an objective approach. Objectivity is based on facts rather than hypothetical statements or feelings towards a knowledge claim. Students are encouraged to base their knowledge claims on facts and evidence rather than on hypotheses and feelings.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Perspective</h3>&nbsp;This key concept refers to how knowledge is shaped by individual and/or cultural viewpoints. In short, how does a person's perspective affect how they view and analyze knowledge claims? It also refers to the setting or background in which knowledge claims are produced and interpreted. Students should be mindful that different perspectives can lead to varying interpretations of the same event, topic, or idea. As such, perspective can be a reflection of one's beliefs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Power</h3>&nbsp;This key concept refers to how one may be able to control others to influence the outcome of events. How can the power held by someone affect their transmission and use of knowledge? Students are advised to think about how people with different levels of power interpret knowledge claims differently. It is important to note that power does not only mean authority or positions of power. It can also mean the ability (or power) someone has to influence the creation and use of knowledge.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Responsibility</h3>&nbsp;This key concept concerns the ethical implications of producing and using knowledge. Students should understand the responsibility that comes with the creation and use of knowledge. This is because misinformation and biased knowledge claims can have dire consequences on how said knowledge is used or spread through a community or society. Students should think about whether all knowledge is neutral or whether the creators of knowledge claims are responsible for how this knowledge is used.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Truth</h3>&nbsp;This key concept refers to how real, truthful or factual a knowledge claim is. Students should consider if their knowledge claims are truthful or if the truth behind a claim can be debated to an extent. The vast expansion of the Internet and AI are making it increasingly difficult to separate truth from fiction. Students are advised to consider the impact of technology on how we view the truth behind knowledge claims.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Values</h3>&nbsp;This key concept refers to the guiding principles that a person or community has in their life. How do values shape people's beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and overall interaction with knowledge claims? Values influence the type of knowledge claims that are pursued or considered important relative to other knowledge claims. The TOK essay is worth 67% of your final grade, and the TOK exhibition is worth 33%. This means your essay score will have a bigger impact on your final grade. To get the total final score, the essay and exhibition scores are combined based on these percentages, which is why they don’t always add up to exactly 30. For example, if you score well on your essay but not as well on your exhibition, your final score will still reflect the heavier weight of the essay score. TOK Grade Boundaries 

If you’re getting ready to start your TOK essay and aren’t sure how to begin, you’re in the right place. In this post, we’ll share the November 2026 essay titles along with helpful guidance to support you in approaching your chosen prompt.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">TOK Essay Titles - November 2026</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Is the advice to “study the historian before you begin to study their work” (adapted from E.H. Carr) good advice? Explore with reference to history and one other area of knowledge.&nbsp;<ul><li>Explain how a historian’s background can shape the way they interpret and present events. Understanding their biases and cultural influences can help readers critically evaluate their accounts. Within a second area of knowledge (such as the human sciences or the arts), consider how the creator’s identity or context similarly influences knowledge production.&nbsp;</li><li>Discuss how studying the historian first can deepen critical engagement, allowing you to identify bias, detect selective use of evidence, and better understand competing interpretations. This approach can encourage a more engaged analysis.&nbsp;</li><li>Consider potential drawbacks, such as focusing too heavily on the historian rather than on their work and what it means. This may also create bias in the reader before engaging with the work itself.</li></ul>&nbsp;&nbsp;2. To what extent do you agree that failure is an essential part of the production of knowledge? Answer with reference to two areas of knowledge.&nbsp;<ul><li>Explore how failure contributes to knowledge production by revealing errors and challenging assumptions. For example, in the natural sciences, failed experiments often lead to refined hypotheses and improved methodologies. In another area of knowledge (such as the arts or human sciences), failure may inspire creativity, innovation, or deeper understanding.&nbsp;</li><li>Discuss how failure supports a process of trial and error, which is essential for refining ideas and progressing toward more reliable knowledge. It encourages resilience and critical reflection, both of which are central to intellectual growth.&nbsp;</li><li>Consider that not all knowledge production relies equally on failure. Keep reading this guide to find out Clastify's recommendations on how to allocate these words to best meet the assessment criteria. We base our tips on our extensive experience with helping IB students achieve the best marks for their coursework.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">TOK essay word count&nbsp;</h2> An appropriate word allocation is crucial for writing a balanced essay that will be in line with the assessment criteria. Your work should consist of the following sections the introduction, 1st Area of Knowledge, 2nd Area of Knowledge, and the conclusion.&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;"> Introduction</h3>Begin your TOK essay with around 150 words of introduction, where you will state the chosen prescribed title, define key terms relevant to the context of your study, and briefly explain your approach to determining the answer to the title question.&nbsp; &nbsp;See <a href="/tok/essay/64a6f3bb701b5600139b42a2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here </a>for reference.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">First Area of Knowledge</h3>Each Area of Knowledge should be approached from 2 contrary perspectives. Next, you will present an opposing view. In this post we will explain the TOK Exhibition deadline so that it no longer weighs on your mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">IB TOK Exhibition Deadline</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK Exhibition is internally assessed but nevertheless a sample is always sent to the IB for moderation. The IB however does not provide students with a specific deadline for the TOK Exhibition. Instead, it sets a final submission deadline for schools by which the sample must be sent off, which is communicated only to the school's IB Coordinator. As such, schools will set their own internal deadline, keeping the IB's deadline in mind. However, it's important to use it appropriately and in alignment with IB guidelines. If you decide to include an appendix in your EE, this post is for you! Here, we'll break down what a good EE appendix looks like so that you can format yours accordingly, no matter the subject of your EE.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">Extended Essay Appendix Guide</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 class="" style="text-align:justify;" data-start="480" data-end="514">Purpose of the Appendix</h3>&nbsp;<ul data-start="515" data-end="1178"><li class="" data-start="515" data-end="817">The appendix is for supporting material that would otherwise interrupt the flow of your essay or would cause your essay to exceed the word limit of 4000 words.&nbsp;</li><li>Any evaluative or analytical content should not be placed in the appendix but rather in the main body of your essay.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="818" data-end="1011">The appendix should be a supplement to the main EE, not a place to dump extra information. They significantly influence the modern world and help shape people's views and identities. Teachers can choose from the following five themes: knowledge and technology, knowledge and language, knowledge and politics, knowledge and religion, and knowledge and indigenous societies.</li><li>The Areas of Knowledge (AOKs): These are particular fields of study, each with its own unique characteristics and often employing different methods to acquire knowledge. What is TOK?

There’s often confusion around how personal the TOK Exhibition should be. In this post, we’ll clear up those misconceptions and break down exactly what to include to make your Exhibition to score top marks.&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">&nbsp;</h2><h2 style="text-align:center;">Does TOK Exhibition have to be personal?</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Over the years, a common misconception has developed around the TOK Exhibition – many students believe that the exhibition must be highly personal and include direct references to the student's own life or experiences. This misunderstanding has led to confusion about what the IB actually expects and has caused students to waste valuable word count on content that isn’t necessary. &nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK Exhibition does not need to be personal. The IB does not require students to share their personal stories or explain how the chosen objects relate to their individual lives. This idea likely stems from a misinterpretation of the IB’s recommendation that students select objects they are familiar with. The actual purpose of this advice is to help students avoid choosing superficial or random objects – especially those found online just moments before starting the exhibition. For example, if a student has been playing the violin for many years, they may be very familiar with the instrument, its construction, its cultural significance, and its role in musical knowledge. Using a violin as one of their exhibition objects would make sense, because they could write about it with depth and clarity. However, they do not need to include a personal explanation such as “I have been playing the violin since I was six years old.” That level of personal background is unnecessary and not part of what is being assessed. &nbsp;&nbsp;This point has been clarified in several official IB subject reports. However, many TOK websites and informal guides continue to promote the mistaken idea that personal relevance must be explicitly stated. In practice, including personal anecdotes often takes up space that could be better used to explore the knowledge issues raised by the prompt. The assessment criteria focus on how well the student uses the object to support their discussion of the prompt, the clarity and depth of their ideas, and the extent to which they demonstrate TOK thinking. There is no requirement to include personal stories or explain the emotional or historical significance of the object in the student’s life.&nbsp;&nbsp;In summary, students should choose objects they are genuinely familiar with because this will naturally lead to stronger, more insightful Exhibition. Students however do not need to explain how or why they are familiar with the object. Does TOK Exhibition have to be personal?

In this post we will breakdown the TOK Essay deadline and provide you will all necessary information.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">IB TOK Essay Deadline</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK Essay is an externally assessed component, meaning that all student work will be sent off to the IB for marking. The IB however does not provide students with a specific deadline for the TOK Essay. Instead, it sets a final submission deadline for schools by which all Essays must be sent off, which is communicated only to the school's IB Coordinator. As such, schools will set their own internal deadline, keeping the IB's deadline in mind. To find out your specific TOK Essay deadline, speak directly with your IB Coordinator, as they are the one who determines and communicates this to students.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>The internal deadlines</h3>&nbsp;As mentioned, it is your school that sets the deadline for submitting your TOK Essay. Schools may set up deadlines that vary largely. Some schools may set up an internal deadline that falls close to the IB's deadline (around February of DP2 for the May session and August of DP2 for the November session) while other schools may require students to complete their Essays earlier &nbsp;(however, here, schools will typically still permit students to refine their Essays until the deadline set by the IB approaches). At the end of the day, it all depends on the approach that your school chooses so make sure to speak to your IB Coordinator.&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>What to do if I miss the TOK Essay deadline?</h3>&nbsp;First of all, don’t panic. As mentioned earlier, deadlines are set internally, and even schools that opt for a late deadline still schedule them a few weeks ahead of the official IB submission date to allow for unexpected situations like this. If you miss your TOK Essay deadline, contact your school’s IB Coordinator immediately, explain the circumstances, and they will guide you on the next steps. That said, we can’t stress enough how important it is to meet your deadlines – doing so will save you a lot of stress and uncertainty.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>How to meet the deadline</h3>&nbsp;The best way to meet the TOK Essay deadline is to start early. Working consistently allows you to thoughtfully select a question, think of strong arguments and counterarguments, and structure a coherent and well-balanced essay. Break the process into stages: pick your question, brainstorm, think of real-life examples for both your arguments and counterarguments, write up a first draft, and revise. If you are currently completing the IB Diploma Program, you may have become familiar with TOK, which includes a 1600-word essay along with a 950-word TOK exhibition. Although TOK essay prompts change after a set amount of time, you may be wondering if this is the case for the TOK exhibition prompts as well. This post is here to help clarify whether the TOK exhibition prompts change.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">Do TOK Exhibition Prompts Change?</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK exhibition is the Internal Assessment (IA) portion of the TOK component. It is marked by your high school's TOK teachers and externally moderated by the IB. As part of the TOK exhibition, you will need to pick a prompt and 3 objects. All 3 objects must link to the same prompt. The 35 TOK exhibition prompts can be found <a href="/blog/35-tok-exhibition-prompts" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;TOK exhibition prompts do not change from session to session (eg: May to November) and are fixed for a specific duration of time.
