Keep reading this guide to find out Clastify's recommendations on how to allocate these words to best meet the assessment criteria. We base our tips on our extensive experience with helping IB students achieve the best marks for their coursework.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">TOK essay word count&nbsp;</h2> An appropriate word allocation is crucial for writing a balanced essay that will be in line with the assessment criteria. Your work should consist of the following sections the introduction, 1st Area of Knowledge, 2nd Area of Knowledge, and the conclusion.&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;"> Introduction</h3>Begin your TOK essay with around 150 words of introduction, where you will state the chosen prescribed title, define key terms relevant to the context of your study, and briefly explain your approach to determining the answer to the title question.&nbsp; &nbsp;See <a href="/tok/essay/64a6f3bb701b5600139b42a2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here </a>for reference.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">First Area of Knowledge</h3>Each Area of Knowledge should be approached from 2 contrary perspectives. Therefore we suggest devoting 2 paragraphs each of around 300 words to answer the research question in reference to the chosen AOK. State your claim and use examples from one subject to support them. Next, you will present an opposing view. The bibliography is a vital part of your Extended Essay – it demonstrates academic honesty, helps examiners assess the depth of your research, and supports your overall argument by showing where your information came from. This post outlines some key points to keep in mind when formatting your EE bibliography.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">Extended Essay Bibliography Guide</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 class="" style="text-align:justify;" data-start="588" data-end="632">Use a Consistent Style</h3>&nbsp;<ul data-start="634" data-end="1211"><li class="" data-start="634" data-end="747">Choose a recognized citation style such as MLA, APA, Chicago, etc. and stick to it throughout your entire essay.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="748" data-end="894">The IB does not require any specific citation style, but keep in mind that whatever style you choose must be applied consistently in both in-text citations and the bibliography.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="895" data-end="990">If you're unsure which style to use, make sure to ask your EE supervisor as they will be able to suggest an appropriate format.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="991" data-end="1112">Use citation tools such as Zotero, EasyBib, etc., or built-in citation features in Word or Google Docs to create correct citations.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="991" data-end="1112">Although you could also do citations manually, it is best to do it using a tool to ensure accuracy and save time.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="1113" data-end="1211">Double-check that all your citations are correct. Sometimes citation tools can make mistakes in volume numbers, issue numbers, date of publication, etc., so you must check each citation yourself to make sure it is accurate.</li></ul>&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 class="" style="text-align:justify;" data-start="1218" data-end="1263">Include All References</h3>&nbsp;<ul data-start="1265" data-end="1818"><li class="" data-start="1265" data-end="1396">Your bibliography should list all sources used to support your research, including books, journal articles, websites, interviews, videos, documentaries, and databases.&nbsp;</li><li class="" data-start="1498" data-end="1608">If you used a source in a foreign language, include both the original and translated versions in your citation where applicable. Students are supposed to select 3 items that personally intrigue them and relate to their academic studies or experiences outside the classroom.&nbsp;Next, they are expected to use them to answer an exhibition prompt (a research question chosen from a list of 33 prompts uploaded for each session).&nbsp;&nbsp;Basically, a TOK object is a real-life example applied in the exhibition to support arguments when investigating the research question. Since TOK revolves around knowledge and its acquisition, the objects should shed light on different aspects of this process. &nbsp; &nbsp;Focusing on one of the TOK themes, whether it's the core theme or an optional one, is highly recommended. Such an approach will help you with the selection of objects and will provide you with a clear direction for your exhibition. In the selection process, you should also take into account the authenticity, variety, and depth of analysis that your items will allow for.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align:justify;">Form&nbsp;</h3>Instead of physical items, objects should be rather digital. For instance, students can incorporate a photograph of a historical treaty if displaying the actual object isn't possible. Digital objects like a tweet from a political figure are also acceptable. However, they must be rooted in a real-world context, existing in a specific time and space (also virtual). While students can create these items themselves, they must be pre-existing rather than crafted specifically for the exhibition.&nbsp; &nbsp;Each object included in the exhibition must be correctly referenced. If an object is the student's own creation, such as a painting, it should be clearly labeled and acknowledged. This ensures transparency regarding the origins of each object for teachers and moderators. &nbsp;<pre><code class="language-plaintext">CAROUSEL </code></pre><h3 style="text-align:justify;"> Context&nbsp;</h3>The real-world context of each object is very important in this task. Therefore, you must use specific objects for discussion rather than resorting to generic items or images sourced from the internet. To make your objects rich in context apply the following tips:&nbsp;&nbsp;<ol><li>Select specific objects: Choose personal items or ones significant within your local culture or history to offer specific contexts that can be deeply explored.</li><li>Investigate the background: Understanding where and how the object was created can reveal much about the knowledge systems and practices involved. Also, it is worth analysing how the items are perceived (in terms of social and cultural significance).&nbsp;</li><li>Explore multiple perspectives: Objects can be analyzed from multiple disciplinary perspectives, such as historical, artistic, scientific, or ethical viewpoints. This interdisciplinary approach deepens the analysis and understanding. In this post we will explain the TOK Exhibition deadline so that it no longer weighs on your mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">IB TOK Exhibition Deadline</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK Exhibition is internally assessed but nevertheless a sample is always sent to the IB for moderation. The IB however does not provide students with a specific deadline for the TOK Exhibition. Instead, it sets a final submission deadline for schools by which the sample must be sent off, which is communicated only to the school's IB Coordinator. As such, schools will set their own internal deadline, keeping the IB's deadline in mind. To find out your specific TOK Exhibition deadline, speak directly with your IB Coordinator, as they are the one who determines and communicates this to students.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>The internal deadlines</h3>&nbsp;As mentioned, it is your school that sets the deadline for submitting your Exhibition. Schools may set up deadlines that vary largely. Some schools may set up an internal deadline that falls close to the IB's sample deadline (around February of DP2 for the May session and August of DP2 for the November session) while other schools may require students to complete their Exhibitions as early as DP1 (however, here, schools will typically still permit students to refine their Exhibitions until the deadline set by the IB approaches). At the end of the day, it all depends on the approach that your school chooses so make sure to speak to your IB Coordinator.&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>What to do if I miss the TOK Exhibition deadline?</h3>&nbsp;First of all, don’t panic. As mentioned earlier, deadlines are set internally, and even schools that opt for a late deadline still schedule them a few weeks ahead of the official IB submission date to allow for unexpected situations like this. If you miss your Exhibition deadline, contact your school’s IB Coordinator immediately, explain the circumstances, and they will guide you on the next steps. That said, we can’t stress enough how important it is to meet your deadlines – doing so will save you a lot of stress and uncertainty.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>How to meet the deadline</h3>&nbsp;The best way to meet the TOK Exhibition deadline is to start early. TOK Essay Titles – May 2025

The IB Extended Essay (EE) allows students to independently investigate a topic of personal interest and develop strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills. If you are formatting your Extended Essay, read this post for some guidance on the appropriate spacing to use to keep your work professional and easy to read.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">IB Extended Essay Spacing</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;According to the official guidance from the IB, there is no fixed line-spacing requirement for the Extended Essay. This means students are free to choose whatever spacing they like, as long as the essay is easy to read. However, it is strongly recommended that you use 1.5 spacing or double spacing throughout your Extended Essay to ensure readability of the work and a clear presentation.&nbsp;&nbsp;While single or 1.15 spacing is not explicitly prohibited, it can make the text appear crowded and more challenging for the examiner to follow. Closely packed text can also make it more likely for important points to be overlooked if the essay looks like a wall of text rather than being appropriately spaced out. In addition, examiners often annotate or comment on student work. Using wider spacing, such as 1.5 or double spacing, makes this annotation process much easier for examiners.&nbsp;Although spacing itself does not directly affect your mark, presentation still matters since a well-formatted essay creates a stronger overall impression and helps your ideas stand out more clearly. Below you will find a couple of knowledge questions for reference:&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>How can we decide between the judgments of experts if they disagree with each other?</li><li>How can a model be useful even if it is obviously false?&nbsp;</li><li>What ethical constraints should there be on the pursuit of knowledge?</li><li>How significant have notable individuals been in shaping the development of mathematics as an area of knowledge? &nbsp;</li></ul><h3 style="text-align:justify;">TOK curriculum consists of 3 interconnected parts:&nbsp; &nbsp;</h3><ul><li>The core theme - Knowledge and the Knower: This theme encourages students to explore their own roles as knowers and thinkers and to think about the different groups of knowers they are part of.</li><li>The optional themes: This element offers a chance to explore two themes in greater detail. They significantly influence the modern world and help shape people's views and identities. Teachers can choose from the following five themes: knowledge and technology, knowledge and language, knowledge and politics, knowledge and religion, and knowledge and indigenous societies.</li><li>The Areas of Knowledge (AOKs): These are particular fields of study, each with its own unique characteristics and often employing different methods to acquire knowledge. In TOK students examine five mandatory areas: history, human sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and the arts.</li></ul>&nbsp;<pre><code class="language-plaintext">CAROUSEL </code></pre><h3 style="text-align:justify;"> TOK class</h3>&nbsp;A TOK class is different from other subjects. The curriculum puts great focus on the discovery of the process of gaining knowledge and intellectual development rather than specific issues to learn. The characteristics of the course also result in a difference in assessment - there are no exams from Theory of Knowledge. The course should revolve around shared discussion and investigation of various knowledge questions in relation to different Areas of Knowledge. During TOK classes the teacher may propose different activities for instance:&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Discussion seminars: Facilitate discussions where students explore and debate central TOK questions such as "What is the role of language in shaping our understanding of the world?" or "How do we know what we know?"</li><li>Case study analysis: Provide students with various case studies from different areas of knowledge and ask them to analyze these cases, identify knowledge issues, and discuss their implications.&nbsp;</li><li>TOK presentations: Organize individual or group presentations where students present on a specific knowledge question. If you are currently completing the IB Diploma Program, you may have become familiar with TOK, which includes a 1600-word essay along with a 950-word TOK exhibition. Although TOK essay prompts change after a set amount of time, you may be wondering if this is the case for the TOK exhibition prompts as well. This post is here to help clarify whether the TOK exhibition prompts change.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2 style="text-align:center;">Do TOK Exhibition Prompts Change?</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;The TOK exhibition is the Internal Assessment (IA) portion of the TOK component. It is marked by your high school's TOK teachers and externally moderated by the IB. As part of the TOK exhibition, you will need to pick a prompt and 3 objects. All 3 objects must link to the same prompt.
