Are you an IB student thinking of applying to University of Oxford? If so, you may be wondering what the ideal IB score is to get admitted to University of Oxford. This post is here to outline the number of points that are needed for University of Oxford so you can plan your studying and college applications accordingly.

What IB Score Is Needed for Oxford?

Depending on the course, the minimum recommended score to get into Oxford is anywhere between 38-40/45, although many admitted students often have higher grades in the range of 42-45. Achieving a grade of 6/7s in Higher Level (HL) subjects is also necessary for admission to Oxford as these show that you are highly proficient in subjects relevant to your intended program of study. Oxford also considers other factors such as:

  • Extracurricular activities: Extracurricular involvement shows Oxford that you are a well-rounded student who was able to effectively manage their time between studying and participating in extracurriculars. However, unlike most colleges in the US that care about a wide range of extracurriculars such as music, sports, etc, Oxford only wants to see the extracurriculars that at the most relevant to your program of study (e.g. being part of a science club if you are applying to a chemistry program).

  • Personal statement: Along with strong grades, you need to submit compelling personal statements as they help admissions officers see your fit for Oxford by the way you answer the essay prompts. Personal statements for UK universities need to be formal and professional, unlike US admissions where your college essays are more informal.

  • Recommendation letters: Strong recommendation letters can demonstrate your personal strengths, character, and potential to succeed at university. They are crucial as this shows admissions officers your likelihood of succeeding at your intended academic program.
