The CAS component of the IB programme can be quite perplexing. In particular, the term CAS hours causes much confusion among IB students. However, Clastify is here to help! In this post we will clarify this term to ensure it no longer troubles you.

IB CAS Hours

The term CAS Hours refers to the number of hours a student must dedicate to CAS experiences in order to successfully complete their CAS. Previously, the IBO mandated that students engage in at least 150 hours of CAS experiences. However, this target was abolished a few years ago. Currently, the IBO does not specify a required number of CAS hours; instead, the organization allows individual schools to determine their own CAS requirements.

Some schools may still adhere to the 150 hour requirement while others may adopt a different method of assessing CAS, sometimes one that doesn't even take into consideration the amount of hours. Hence, it is best to speak to your school's CAS coordinator to familiarise yourself with the specific CAS requirements your school follows.

We hope this post has dispelled any confusion you had regarding CAS hours. For more useful materials associated with the IB check out the wide variety of IA, EE and TOK exemplars available at Clastify and other guides available on our blog
