At Clastify, we are committed to providing a valuable and thorough review process for your IB coursework submissions, including Internal Assessments (IA), Extended Essays (EE), or Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essays. Our system ensures that your submissions are handled with care and professionalism, helping you to improve your grade significantly. This post will guide you through each step of our meticulous review process, from submission to receiving your feedback, illustrating our dedication to enhancing your educational experience.
The process starts when you submit your IA, EE, or TOK work as a PDF file through our platform. Clastify receives your file and assigns it to an appropriate reviewer. This reviewer is always an IB-certified examiner. This assignment process is thoughtful and complex, ensuring that the right expert handles your specific piece of work to provide the most beneficial feedback possible.
The selected reviewer and our internal Clastify Review Team are the only entities with access to your work, guaranteeing that your intellectual property is kept secure and handled confidentially. The reviewer precisely reads your submission and evaluates it against the IB criteria. Each criterion is carefully checked and marked: a green tick indicates full correctness, a red cross signifies incorrectness or missing elements, and a black line indicates that a specific requirement does not apply to your given work. Then, a detailed commentary follows each criterion's evaluation, providing clear explanations of the standings and constructive advice for areas needing improvement. If the requirement is marked as completed incorrectly, the reviewer provides their suggestion on how to improve the work so that the requirement can be fulfilled.
In general, Clastify tries to mark IAs on the harsher side since this ensures that students improve more. So in cases where the IB would probably give the benefit of the doubt we usually mark down just to be on the safe side. Our goal here is not to give marks that students will be satisfied with, but to give rigorous and valuable feedback on anything that needs improvement - this way you'll be sure that you receive the best grade when IB will be marking your coursework.
Once the reviewer completes their assessment, the review is subject to a secondary inspection by our Clastify Review Team. This step is crucial to ensure that all aspects of your initial request have been satisfied and that the review’s language is precise and clear. After passing this quality assurance check, the final review is sent directly to you, the user, with a notification email to alert you of the completed feedback, which is ready for your use.
All of our reviews are done by humans, however, we sometimes might use AI to streamline the process and increase the user experience in certain areas. The main areas where AI might be used are:
Clai: Clai is an AI assistant whose role is to help you understand and implement the feedback provided in our review. You can ask him to clarify comments, give examples, or any other questions regarding your review. Clai understands your coursework, and has access to our marking as well as a deep knowledge of the IB program and coursework requirements. Our Review Team is still here to answer any questions you might have, but Clai is often able to provide answers that are just as accurate instantly.
Criterion summaries: The summaries of each criterion's marking are AI-generated based on the comments and marking of the individual subcriteria. This allows us to slightly cut down on the time it takes to create a review and as a result, deliver the reviews to our customers in a shorter timeframe. It's important to remember that the criterion summaries are just a condensed version of the criterion's marking and hence no new information is introduced in them. Any part of the summary that is AI-generated is always double-checked by a reviewer who is also able to make edits if they believe that certain parts should be changed.
Augmentation of comments: All comments and highlights that are part of the review are initially done by a human reviewer, however in certain cases, we might use AI for augmentation purposes such as fixing typos or spelling mistakes, changing the tone, etc. This allows us to increase the quality of the review's comments and deliver them in a more user-friendly way. It's important to remember that all the actual content and substantive value of the comments is always done by a human - AI might only sometimes be used to change the style and tone but is never responsible for any of the actual content or marking. In addition, we require our reviewers to always double-check any stylistic changes made by AI to ensure that no mistakes were introduced. Learn more about our comment augmentation here.
Although AI might sometimes be used by us to increase the user experience and quality of reviews it's never responsible for the actual marking. The core and most important elements of the review are always fully done by IB examiners to ensure that our reviews are always accurate. Any AI-generated parts are always double-checked by our reviewers, who make edits when necessary.
Why does Clastify's mark differ from my teacher's prediction?
Sometimes you might notice a difference between the marks awarded by your teachers and the predicted score provided by us. Marking IB coursework is always slightly subjective and that's why small variations might occur. In order to ensure that all our reviews are closely in line with IB's expectations our team consists only of IB-certified examiners who not only actively teach but also continuously refine their evaluation skills through official IBO workshops. This ensures that our feedback aligns closely with the IB expectations.
It's essential to recognize that, although in most cases accurate, the predicted scores are primarily for illustrative purposes. We cannot guarantee that they will always match the score awarded by your teacher/IBO, as marking IB coursework is always slightly subjective. Our goal is not just to predict a score but to give you an understanding of the IB requirements and possible ways to improve your work. This approach helps students understand the academic standards expected by the IB, which might not always be clearly communicated in schools.
I don't understand a comment, what should I do?
We always aim to write all feedback in a clear and understandable manner. However, since different people understand things differently sometimes a comment might not be 100% clear to you. In order to ensure that our reviews are always helpful we've created Clai - an AI assistant that's able to clarify and explain comments. Whenever you're unsure about a comment or have any questions about your review feel free to message Clai and he will provide any requested clarifications.
Although, usually helpful, Clai is still in beta version and might sometimes not be able to give you the desired answers. For cases like that, we've created a dedicated email address (review@clastify.com) where you can send any questions regarding your review. We will always reply and provide additional information or clarification as requested.
Why did I receive a lower-than-expected score from Clastify?
In some cases, the predicted score awarded by us might be lower than expected - we understand that this might be very frustrating. The goal of our reviews is not to provide a score that students are happy with but to point out any areas of improvement (even if the mistake is very slight). This ensures that after our review students can make their work much better and maximize their chances of getting a good grade from the IB. The scores we provide do not influence your final grades, nor are they recognized by universities; instead, they are intended to serve as a constructive tool for improvement. We therefore believe that it's better to award lower scores as in the end that enables students to score higher when IB marks their coursework - this is what counts.
The IB often awards the benefit of the doubt in its final assessments, rewarding points for work that is mostly correct despite minor errors. In contrast, our reviewers adopt a harsher approach, marking down for even slight mistakes to prepare students for any eventuality, including the possibility of being assessed by a particularly strict examiner. Our goal is to ensure that your work is as good as possible, enabling you to excel in the final IB evaluation, which ultimately holds the most significance.
