  1. On the title page, you will include the topic of your investigation, the research question, the subject, and the word count.

  2. The next page should be the table of contents with all subsections of your essay along with the page numbering.

  1. Provide a comprehensive introduction to the topic you chose for your extended essay to demonstrate your understanding of the broader historical context.

  2. State the aim and your approach to the investigation.

  3. Identify the historical issue and state how it relates to different concepts from the field of History.

Research question

  1. State a focused research question, for instance: To what extent were legal measures responsible for the exclusion of Jews from German society from 1933-1938?
  2. In the research question, you should specify the historical event that is subject to your analysis and provide details such as clarifying the parties involved or the time period under investigation.

  3. Keep in mind that the topic must be older than 10 years old and that the time scope must be appropriate for the length of the essay.

Methodology

  1. You will base your extended essay on secondary sources.

  2. Select secondary sources carefully, ensuring their reliability and relevance to the investigation's context.

  3. Opt for sources that will ensure a variety of perspectives on the topic.

  4. Prioritize the incorporation of sources that effectively support the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered as introducing irrelevant information can lead to a deduction of points.

  5. Demonstrate a clear understanding of how the selected sources will enhance the investigation's overall validity. Justify your choices.
