Are you in the process of preparing your TOK exhibition? You must keep in mind the word limit! Your work cannot exceed 950 words, however, there is no restriction when it comes to the number of pages. Keep reading this guide to find out how would Clastify allocate these words to best meet the assessment criteria. We base our recommendations on our extensive experience with helping IB students achieve the best marks for their coursework.

TOK exhibition word count

An appropriate word allocation is crucial for writing a balanced essay that will be in line with the assessment criteria. Your work should consist of 3 descriptions of objects in reference to a chosen prompt. The introduction and conclusion are not necessary in this case.

Object description

You should divide the available 950 words between 3 objects, thus each paragraph will be around 315 words. Within this limit you should do the following:

  • Present the object - see how it was done in this exhibition.

  • Provide a real-life context of the object (ideally showing your connection/usage of it)

  • Ensure there are highly evident connections established between the object and the prompt question, as seen in this exemplar.

  • Explicitly justify the usage of each object, highlighting its unique impact on the discussion.

  • Ensure that the argument you're presenting regarding the prompt, utilizing your second and third object, differs from any previous points you've raised.

Be careful, the word count does not include:

  • any text contained on/within the objects themselves

  • acknowledgments

  • references (whether given in footnotes, endnotes, or in-text)

  • bibliography.

We are hoping that you found this guide useful! We recommend such word allocation, however, you can adjust it to your preferences keeping in mind writing a balanced essay.
