The English A: Literature Paper 1 is a critical analysis exam where students are required to write a commentary on an unseen literary text. Students may encounter a variety of texts, including fictional prose, non-fiction prose, poetry, and even dramatic plays. SL students have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete a commentary on one of the two provided texts, while HL students must write two commentaries in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
