Location and climate: Research the location and climate of the colleges you are interested in applying to. Is the location safe? Can you find affordable housing close to the college campus? This is especially important if you have never been to that country before - you need to make sure your living environment is safe if you are leaving home for the first time. Will the climate be drastically different than in your home country? Research the appropriate weather and clothing that you will require in the country you want to study in.
International student resources: Research the college's available resources for international students. Most colleges have an office that helps international students with immigration-related inquiries.
Financial aid: Research the scholarships and financial aid available to international students. Many programs at smaller colleges are government-funded and international students are not eligible for scholarships. The larger institutions often have a bigger budget to provide international student scholarships. Carefully research the scholarship options and fees of each institution to see what is the most affordable for you or your family.
Future pathways: Think about what your future goals are. Are you looking to study and then return to your home country or do you want to continue living in your college's country and eventually apply for work or residency? If you are looking to stay, research the future pathways for international students such as the ease of getting a work permit, the number of years it takes to get one, etc.

Explore the culture: Since you are moving to a new country for college, take a moment to research the culture of the city and country you are moving to. Is it different in terms of socializing, dressing, activities to do, etc.?
Meet other international students: Once you are in the college, try to join clubs or go to events where you can network with other international students. This will help you make friends more easily as these are also people who may not know anyone else in the college and are more likely to want to network with you.
