Curious about how Clastify evaluates submitted coursework? Whether it's an IA, EE, or TOK, you're in the right place. In this post, we’ll explain exactly how Clastify marks coursework – whether it’s your own submission for review or one of our sample essays with an accompanying markscheme.
When Clastify receives a piece of coursework for marking – whether it’s a student’s draft for review or an essay available on our website – it undergoes the same rigorous procedure.
It is sent to our subject-specialised official IB examiners, some of whom are also IB workshop leaders. It is important to underline that only official IB examiners mark coursework at Clastify, and we are deeply committed to hiring only the most experienced and qualified IB examiners. Each examiner carefully analyses the work against the official IB subject criteria. It takes approximately two hours for an examiner to review a single piece of coursework – this extended timeframe ensures that they can identify every detail, uncover the smallest issues, and provide tailored, actionable suggestions for improvement that align with the specific IB requirements and help the student achieve top marks.
The work is then sent to another subject-specialised IB examiner for a quick quality double-check. This step ensures that there are no mistakes, that every aspect of the work has been thoroughly evaluated, and the second examiner agrees with the provided score, so that the feedback provided will enable the student to fully meet the IB requirements.
We must first highlight that, apart from our AI Review tool, all marking is done exclusively by official IB examiners. AI does not mark IB coursework on our site. Clastify only uses AI to help make certain examiner comments clearer and more user-friendly. The examiner provides comprehensive feedback, and only then does AI augment the examiner's comment so that it's clearer, typo-free, and more user-friendly. However, AI is not responsible for any grading or substantive feedback - every generated comment must still be approved or edited by the examiner. Nothing is added to the review without the examiner's approval. To learn more about our use of AI, click here.
Yes, all the criteria are taken directly from the official IB subject guides. Our team sometimes rephrases them in order to make them easier to understand, but the content always stays the same.
Yes. All mark schemes and reviews on Clastify are done by official IB examiners - the same people who mark final IB coursework and exams. If you take inspiration from the correct parts and improve the incorrect ones, you should easily be able to score a 7 on your coursework.
Sometimes you might notice a difference between the marks awarded by us and your teacher's opinion. Marking IB coursework is always slightly subjective, and that's why small variations might occur. In order to ensure that all our reviews and mark schemes are closely in line with IB's expectations, our team consists only of IB-certified examiners who not only actively teach but also continuously refine their evaluation skills through official IBO workshops. This ensures that our feedback aligns closely with the IB expectations.
In order to get the most out of a mark scheme, you should take inspiration and implement the criteria that were marked as correct in your own coursework. You can easily do that by following the relevant highlights to see which parts are related to which criteria, as well as by reading through our comments.
In your reviewed coursework, you should aim to improve the criteria that were marked as incorrect. Our comments and suggestions for improvement under each incorrect criterion should tell you exactly what to do.
Highlights are used to link criteria to specific parts of the document. They show which parts of the work made the criterion correct/incorrect. By looking at the highlights along with their explanations, you'll be able to apply the suggestions to your work.
This icon next to a criterion shows that it wasn't relevant to this exemplar. This doesn't mean that the criterion is correct or incorrect - it just hasn't been taken into consideration when marking. All criteria that are marked as not relevant have an explanation as to why that's the case.
