If you're wondering about what assessments make up your final IB Geography grade, you've come to the right place. In this post we will break down each component of the IB Biology course.
Paper 3
- Accounts for 20% of the student's subject grade.
- Students have 1 hour to complete Paper 3.
- Students can score up to 28 marks.
- Students answer one question out of three available.
- Each question consists of two essay components: one worth 12 marks and the other worth 16 marks.

Internal Assessment (IA)
- The IA is an individual investigation that allows you to explore a topic of personal interest within the field of geography.
- It is assessed internally by your teacher and externally moderated by the IB, meaning that a sample of your class’s work will be reviewed by IB examiners to ensure standardization.
- For the Internal Assessment, students formulate a geographic research question, collect primary data through fieldwork, and apply appropriate geographic techniques and methods to analyze the data.
- They interpret their findings and draw reasoned, evidence-based conclusions in response to their research question.
- Your investigation must demonstrate a solid understanding of geographic concepts and processes, engagement with the topic, and clear, effective geographic communication.
- The IA is marked out of 25 using four assessment criteria: Fieldwork question and geographic context, Methods of Investigation, Quality and treatment of information collected, Written Analysis, Conclusion, and Evaluation.
