IB Group 6: The Arts

 

 

Group 6 is the arts-focused subject group in the IB program, designed to develop students' creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skills.  

 

There are five main Arts courses: Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, Film, and Dance. In this post, we’ll break down each option to help you choose the one that best suits your interests, abilities, and goals.

 

 

Music 

 

IB Music is a course that explores a wide range of musical genres, combining elements of theory, performance, composition, and critical analysis. The course is best suited for students with prior musical knowledge and experience, as it requires an understanding of musical concepts and the ability to engage with music both practically and analytically. It is ideal for those passionate about music who enjoy performing, composing, and exploring the deeper meaning behind musical works.

 

 

Visual Arts

 

IB Visual Arts is a course that combines creative expression with analytical study, allowing students to explore different artistic concepts, techniques, and media. Throughout the course, students develop their own artworks while also analyzing and reflecting on various artistic styles, movements, and cultural influences.  

 

The course is best suited for students with prior art experience, as it requires a strong understanding of artistic techniques and the ability to critically engage with visual works. It is ideal for those passionate about art who enjoy both creating and analyzing artworks in depth.

 

 

Dance

 

IB Dance is a course that focuses on practical dance training, choreography, dance history, and critical analysis. Students develop their performance skills, explore various dance styles, and create original choreography while also studying the cultural and historical contexts of dance.
