The extended essay is a 4,000 words investigation that should consist of the following parts: 


Title page and table of contents

  1. On the title page, you will include the topic of your investigation, the research question, the subject, and the word count. 

  2. The next page should be the table of contents with all subsections of your essay along with the page numbering. 
     

Introduction 

  1. Provide a comprehensive introduction to the topic you chose for your extended essay to demonstrate your understanding of the broader political context. 

  2. State the aim and your approach to solving the investigation. 

  3. Identify the political issue and state how it relates to different concepts from the field of Global Politics.  

  4. If needed, provide definitions associated with the analysed topic and remember to use specific terminology. 

  5. Include in-text citations to establish the real-life context of the investigated situation.

  1. State a focused research question, for example Abraham Peace Agreement (2020): To what extent will the newly created interdependent alliance be a first step to a new regional order intending to lead Morocco as a powerful sovereign state?
  2. In the research question, you should specify the political event that is subject to your study and provide details such as clarifying the parties involved or the time period under investigation.

  3. Keep in mind that the topic must refer to the events that occurred in your lifetime and that the scope must be appropriate for the length of the essay.

Methodology 

  1. Your extended essay will rely on secondary sources.

  2. Choose secondary sources thoughtfully, verifying their reliability and relevance to the investigation's context.

  3. Select sources that offer diverse perspectives on the topic to enrich your analysis.

  4. Prioritize the incorporation of sources that effectively support the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered as introducing irrelevant information can lead to a deduction of points.

  5. Demonstrate a clear understanding of how the selected sources will enhance the investigation's overall validity. Justify your choices.

Analysis

  1. This is the crucial part of your essay in which you will determine the answer to the research question.

  2. Maintain a coherent structure by dividing the main body into paragraphs, each dedicated to distinct arguments/subtopics.

  3. Ensure that your arguments are supported by insightful analysis rooted in the selected evidence and aligned with the research question.

  4. Incorporate in-text citations to support your arguments effectively.

  5. Make references to different political concepts such as ideologies.

  6. Throughout the main body, draw mini-conclusions relevant to the focus of your investigation.

  7. Exhibit an understanding of the limitations of your sources by critically analyzing their origin, purpose, and content.

  8. In your extended essay, adopt a critical and analytical approach rather than a narrative or descriptive one to enhance the depth of your analysis.

  5. Briefly revisit the limitations of the data sources utilized in the investigation.

  7. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your extended essay and propose avenues for improvement and expansion.

  1. This section is not included in the word count. 

  2. In the bibliography, you should make a detailed list of all sources used in your investigation in alphabetical order. Remember to stay consistent and use one style of referencing.
