In the application year 2024, the University of California System saw a significant increase in its domestic acceptance rate to 16.0%, with 22,698 of 141,700 applicants being admitted. This marks a sharp rise from 8.3% acceptance in 2023, which had 121,550 applicants and 10,140 acceptances, and shows a notable upward trend over the past several years—up from just 7.4% acceptance in 2019 with 97,750 applicants. Other years reflect similarly low rates, with 8.4% in 2022 and 7.5% in 2020. These figures suggest a substantial increase in competitive admissions, likely resulting from a growing applicant pool alongside a rising acceptance rate.
